No, not always. I went to a large PE owned company in the insurance space and they were a hot mess. I was working 20 hour days 6 days a week the 3 weeks leading up to 4/30/20 in order to get our FS through audit and meet our lender deadline.
Overall I will say I like industry better because I’m focusing all of my efforts on one company instead of 3 or 4 and I feel valued. They gave me a $10k bonus after issuing the FS on top of my normal bonus i got in March. I left this company for a large public company recently and like it better. You have more resources and they’re more organized. There have been a few bad days but I never work the weekend and typically my days normal 8-10 hour days except for a few days a month.

Oh it was bad before the 3 weeks. I was implementing ASC 606 and doing purchase accounting for acquisitions and working a ton. Getting the FS done was the icing on the cake (whatever the opposite of icing would be since it sucked). I was easily working 55 hours a week before that. But at least when I needed a break my boss understood and even if it meant we missed an internal deadline I could take the weekend off or whatever. You never get that kind of leeway in PA.
But in my new role there are ebbs and flows but way way way better than my last job and PA.
20 hours a day six days a week haha ok

It was so bad. I wish I was joking. I would have calls at 3am with the tax director to help get the tax provision completed. My legs retained so much water and hurt from sitting for so many hours a day. I rarely showered and didn’t eat much and would sleep from 5-9am.
