My recommendation for beginners is coinbase. There are free coins you can earn through their "learn & earn" quizzes which are super easy. And the interface is beginner friendly. You can use the same login for coinbase pro, which has lower fees.
My favorite for holding is voyager. It's really good for the interest rates. 5.75% on BTC, 4.6% on ETH, 9% for USDC, etc. You can buy and hold on there and you're raking in interest. I have referrals to both if you'd like to get started ($10 or $25 of BTC for coinbase or voyager).
Bid ask spread. The difference between the highest price that a buyer is willing to pay and the lowest price that a seller is willing to accept.
As a buyer you are paying the ask price. The seller is receiving the bid price.

yeah my b you’re right. still extremely low and awesome
OK sounds like I’ve already had a better than average deal through beginners luck. FYI, Interactive Brokers let’s you trade crypto with no hidden spreads, for 0.18% on trades of at least $1000 (and $1.75 flat for smaller trades). At some much higher trade size it comes down to 0.12% but 0.18% already seems to be best in market. Others I could find who advertise anything that low are all taking a spread as well (usually ~1%), or the advertised rate only applies to trading one crypto for another and not for buying with fiat.
One meaningful downside using IBKR is I don’t think I can lend my crypto for interest there, though it does look like I could transfer it through Paxos to an external wallet, and then lend it at Voyager or Celsius or similar.
It’s possible but not as easy as with most retail platforms. IBKR is designed more for active traders, so its automation tools are super customizable but not so user friendly.
Titan is a game changer, I really like it.

I use Gemini Active Trader and then transfer to BlockFi or Voyager for interest. If you’re trading under $1M, use Gemini Active Trader for lower fees. If you’re trading over $1M, use Coinbase Pro.
