For those newborn, working parents, at what age did you send your baby/child to daycare?

Our son was born August 2019 and went to daycare at 3 months, when my wife’s maternity leave ended. He was in daycare for around 4 months, then COVID started, so daycare closed for a month. When it reopened we had to send him back or else one of us would have to quit a job. Having an under-1 year old wasn’t going to be compatible with two employed people, and we didn’t want grandparents to have to watch him regularly. He’s been in daycare ever since, though occasional quarantine closures have caused a few bumps along the way. We couldn’t have made a better decision. He’s now 2, extremely social and talkative, we love the relationships we have with his teachers and classmates and their families. Other kids that have stayed at home with a single nanny or isolated during the pandemic appear to us to have more developmental challenges, sadly. I don’t blame parents that chose this path but it comes with some issues. Socialization with other kids is a fundamental part of growing up and I highly recommend it. Exposure to colds and all the other childhood bugs is more scary in the Covid era but necessary. We’ve had Hand Foot and Mouth, Roseola, all kinds of fun stuff. We’re stronger as a family because of it.

I love this, thanks for sharing. We have our child’s grandparents nearby and they’re willing to watch our kid; we’re not opposed to this but we also recognize the benefits of a child (even a baby) being around other people and children.

4 months. Best decision ever. He’s 9 mos now and is super chill with strangers and other kids and absolutely loves his teachers and friends. Kid also does “baby yoga” with an outside teacher they bring in twice a week. Not too shabby!!!

6 months once my mat leave ended

~3.5 months for our first kid and we'll be sending our second kid at around the same age in a few months. Socialization is a huge part of early childhood development, so we see it as a win-win for both the kiddos and for us as parents.

D1 is so right. Society makes us think it’s wrong to send our kids to daycare, but all 3 of mine did great and are so social and easy going now. They are 16, 18, and 20 and still remember their teachers starting at about 3 years old. I would do it again for sure. But, they do get sick the fir at few months. However that means they get less sick in elementary school

Both my wife and I work so our little one has been enrolled once wife finishes maternity leave ~ 5 months.

At 3 months … I actually did home daycare where it’s smaller and usually only one infant is allowed so lots of extra love

Five months

Five months (home daycare) and transitioned at 1 year to a regular daycare.

4 months. Unbelievably frightening the first day. Much easier the end of the first week. And by week 3, no concerns whatsoever.

18 months

Same

14 months

With the amount poop I am cleaning 1 month into it, can’t wait to send him away

6 weeks - she was always sick the first year, now is never sick. also super sociable and never afraid of a new situation

18mo

The culture around PTO on my 6-7 person team is one where: 1) no one (besides me) takes more than 1-2 days off a year, 2) people frequently brag about how little time off they take…”I only took one day off for my child being born”, 3) people make comments that I’m “always on vacation” (in the last 2.5 years working at my company, I’ve taken cumulatively ~4 weeks off). Team workflow is deal-based so it’s difficult to plan in advance for taking time off as deals often come up unexpectedly. Cont…

I am sincerely asking for advice, not criticism. I have been w/ my boyfriend for 2 years, & I love him dearly. I have a history of being in toxic relationships. My friends call me a chaos addict. I grew up in poverty, and I’m the only one in my family who didn’t battle addiction. I was also a victim of sexual, physical, verbal, & emotional abuse from a step parent I love my bf more than anything, & I do not want to break up, but I keep fantasizing about cheating on him (Cont. in comments)

Expecting a baby this summer. Should I still be looking for other job opportunities? EY has a very generous paternity leave if you’ve been with the firm for 1+ years, but not sure if I would have the same opportunity to take 2-3 months leave if I switch jobs. Can I potentially work parental leave into negotiations?

Can you get fired while you are pregnant in NJ? My work has been slightly affected due to what I am going through but my manager sent me a long email today pointing the things that had to be fixed. We have weekly one on one calls to discuss work. Maybe they are collecting evidence before firing me.

I recently found a new job and am (finally) making as much as my husband even though historically I’ve made significantly. We’ve recently purchased our home and also have a child on the way. My husband insists that because I now make as much as him, I should kick in half of the mortgage, car loan, and utilities (I pay about 40% now). I feel this is an unfair ask because as head of household, the man should shoulder more of the financial responsibility. He says it’s the 21st century…

Friends, I highlighted and denied working late because of my child. I was performing good but not in the eyes of my manager. He gave me the worst rating and my scatterplot is at the middle of quadrant 3 behind all SCON at my level. This is also because one SCON at my level is manager’s favourite and I joined recently. Can I expect some increment or what will happen to variable? Please guide me saviours!! Also my coach is supporting me and has given a very good rating.

I was told that I won’t be considered for my promotion to SM this year end because I’m on maternity leave. This sounds sketchy given that I did everything in my power to prepare before I went on mat leave. Now I’m pushing my coach and leadership to let me go up for promotion in an off cycle promotion. Is this fair and normal or is this a sign I need to look for a new job and resign? I feel like I’m being punished for being on maternity leave.

I have a rather long question. If I run out of space, I will continue in the first comment. I sponsor a GSA. There is a trans student who is always making sardonic comments in inappropriate times. We were talking recently, and every time a student bared their soul, this kid would make a joke out of it. The students who were speaking felt that they were not heard, and all of the attention was focused on this trans student.

We are visiting my in laws for Christmas. My husband and I got our covid test but then my husband wanted our toddler to also get a covid test. I refused to let someone take a giant swab and inserting this down my toddlers throat. If my kid has Covid -I’m sure we would have it too. This was a huge scene when I refused.

Hey guys I’m staff2 in audit and will be promoted to senior in June. I would expect around 25-30% raise. Currently 100% remote work & don’t see going back to the office soon. Also, I need to pay 20k bonus back for breaking retention period. I recently got an offer for a valuation consultant position at mid size firm with 15% raise and go to office 3 days a week. Feel like valuation position is more attractive in long term but think getting lowballed extremely. What do you think?
