For those of you that have been in bi or data science consulting for a while, how many projects are actually smooth/not a complete clusterf*ck or sh*tshow? I’ve been in ERP consulting cont.

For a second there i was going to say bi visibility day was a few weeks ago... 🏳️‍🌈

It helps when the client actually appreciates the complexity of what they’re trying to do. I’ve had some projects go smooth, some just all over the place - id say 50/50. Data science is harder than people think for implementation and easier than people realize for preliminary assessments

I went “yeah I’m bisexual” and then got incredibly confused by the rest of the post...

If it was easy, the client would do it themselves !

I'm with TA1. Clients wouldn't call us if these problems were easy. They'd do it in house or hire a staff aug contractor. They hire us because they believe the cost premium is justified by our ability to execute.

With enterprise clients for 7 yrs now and looking back, I don’t think I’ve ever had a good project. Is this just the nature of consulting or possibly just more common with ERP since there seem to be so many moving parts, workstreams, etc

D1 what were some of the main problems you encountered on your bad projects? And how long have you been doing this for?

In general, I think people understate the interpersonal aspect of making projects not shit shows. A lot comes down to how your team works, how your client is, and what your relationship with the client is like.

I would say that very few of my projects have been shit shows, but we have a lot of autonomy from our client and a 30-year relationship doing this work with them which has built a lot of trust. My client is also shockingly good at knowing when they don’t know something, and is primarily made up of scientists who understand that things don’t always go according to plan.

My team works well together and underpitches our expected delivery so that if/when we fall behind it’s not a big deal (I know people who pitch the dream and then only deliver 1/3 and they tend to look very bad).

I think one or two. It comes down to how templated the work is. The more “discovery” type work, the more messed up it is. In other words anytime somebody can’t say “I’ve done exactly this thing before successfully”. I’ve only seen a data conversion and an SAP BI install be completely successful

All interesting answers thus far. Keep them coming

Ta1 not necessarily true. sometimes it’s not so easy to find enough people with certain skill set because consulting firms have most of them, hence NetSuite or Hybris. Not so hard to do an internal implementation but almost impossible to hire up an internal team large enough without relying on external resources because it’s so damn hard to find the talent

DDOP, that’s part of what makes it hard! Either expertise or manpower, which keeps the consulting train rolling!

As a third year associate, can I be fired for avoiding taking work from certain partners if they’re powerful enough/bring in a ton of business? For context, I’m hitting my hours (and more) and have been getting good reviews.

What % do you guys charge a partner to advertise on social using your handle/ad account? Is a 100% markup fee plus an "agency" like fee for maintenance of 15% too aggressive?

Hey everyone! S2 here and I’m interested in becoming a life coach after public so wanted to offer help to anyone who isn’t happy with the mentoring they’re getting at work and would like a second perspective. I’m also hoping to coach in areas beyond career, like core beliefs, values, habits, or relationships. I’ve completed online certification courses, I’ve done a ton of self study of other coaching content and I believe you can still provide value and help to someone even if you haven’t (cont)

WOC here. Just moved to a smaller agency. Took a position heading a dept. Happy to report my ideas, advice and suggestions are being accepted. Excited to be breaking through and leading change.

So for the other agencies who are yet to cut ties with LIA, does it mean they are in support of T. Royer? What signal does it send to their clients who heavily relied on female customers?

Leaving this here without comment 😂

What do you do with manager who manages in aggressive style, has a resting bitching face, is rude on calls by cutting other ppl, expects associates to get meals for her... (all you can imagine)?

I mean, it's not wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Additional Posts in Data & Analytics Consultants

Hi everyone,
My friend is pursuing Masters in Industrial Engineering and graduating in Early December.

Any leads for full time job or referrals will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Any one know BIg Four Data Analytics Position? I am in the healthcare data analytics and market research before and want to know about the big four. Please help.:)

I'm currently a property accountant with an MBA in finance. I desire to earn more income considering my credentials and experience. I currently earn 93k and striving to get to 150 or even 200 to be able to live the way I want to live, pay for good schooling for my children, eat organic, travel etc. Even to buy a nice house in a great neighborhood is at lease a million. I'm looking for salary comparisons and recommendations to reach my financial goals

Slalom 🐠, friend got contacted by a recruiter from Slalom, does anyone know if they apply for new H1s & what the interview process is like for a Data Analytics person? Any info appreciated!Thank you!

What's your take on the importance of having PCEP, PCAP and PCPP python certifications for Data Science consultancy? I found that PCEP and PCAP can ensure code quality, but want to hear other opinions on this. TIA.

I’m an expert r user but a beginner in Python. Also have some background in object oriented but it’s been a while. Need to learn Python quick. Any recommendations?

Hey 🐠, would appreciate your input. I’ve found myself more on the data engineering side of work (Snowflake builds, ETLs, etc.). This work is important and sells well, but I want to move towards more “analytics” and influencing business decision-making through data. I’m thinking working on vis analytics (tableau) is a step in the right direction for me? Also looking into M&A analytics teams as well. Anyone go through a similar change or can offer thoughts? Thanks!

I am trying to read in an excel file (size:50mb, format: .xlsm) using Pandas. It takes about two minutes to load it. If I convert it to csv, it returns an error (“Error tokenizing date. C error..”).

Hey everyone,

I was trying to get a graduage strategy intern position at
Dell Technologies but they asked alot about Sql and Tableau (think that's the spelling).

Are courses I take online worth it when it comes to the interview getting interviewed if I don't have practical experience ?

Do you think being a data analyst in industry or data scientist at big 4 would help more getting to a MMANG data scientist role?

I work in a product and they hired me as a Data Architect to advance their data and analytics capabilities.
Since then I have built the warehouse/mart and ETL pipelines and replicated old reports from this new data source.
Now I am not sure what else to do from here?
I have suggested them to leverage PowerBI , but there is no support from product owners for requirements as they are busy dealing with the main features of the products.
Looking for suggestions/guidance from fellow 🐠 .

Did it take a while for anyone else to hear back from Gamma/Platinion after the resume drop? It's been 3 months since I applied to a role Platinion and a month for a Gamma role, both data engineering

Any thoughts on good professional certifications for analytics consultants?

Expecting to make around 100k TC with 2 YOE and an MS in the DC area.
Data scientist, with actual ML experience (not deep learning, but otherwise working deep with the algorithms of classical techniques), not just basic business intelligence.
Is this comp low for non-FAANG companies?

Is SAS institute still competitive? Would you or certain types of companies still use any of their software for particular analysis? Or are open source and other cloud providers making them less relevant?

Have been considering joining their sales team, though is this risky given their competitive position and the economy?

I have received an offer for a Sr. AI Consultant at Deloitte in NYC. Could someone in the role or in the AI practice answer some of my questions related to projects, travel and comp increase on promotion. Thanks!
