For those of you who are currently working at or have worked in the past in Deloitte, McKinsey, etc - What is it like working at the big 4 consultancy as a UX designer? Do you think you are able to get strong portfolios out of the work? Do you think it would help you career? Asking as someone considering to move from in-house to a consultancy.

I don't like my job, the responsibilities and tasks aren't right for me or my lifestyle.

Key positives for my current employer are pay and security. But my new role within the company isn't working for me, and ultimately I don't think it is for the company either.

A much much smaller (20 people) company offered me a role.

With the global economic situation as is, is it worth the risk to change to a job I know i'd like more with less pay, and potentially less job security?

Although my title is a consultant, my role entails the usual responsibilities of a PM (prioritizing builds and features, identifying business requirements, mapping user journeys and stakeholder management). Has anyone found roles in Big 4 or industry that allowed more work life balance when their kids were young without damaging future career trajectory? I'm a partner with young kids and feel like I'm missing out on too much of their lives. Wishful, but my dream job would have a lighter workload in terms of time and pressure for the next ~5 years, but not set me back too much (or at all) when the kids are older and tired of me in a few years and I'm ready to be back at work full force.

Does the size of the deals you work on impact your exit opps? I'm considering a role at an MM firm (non-PA firm) and they mentioned the deals are usually in the $200M area of size, which I realize is smaller than big 4 deals

Does anyone freeze with deadlines, and if so what works for you? Whenever I have a deadline my brain freezes and refuses to work. It used to be that my brain worked overtime right before a deadline - now it refuses to work until after a deadline. I think this is because all of my deadlines are internal and I’ve never had a partner look at anything immediately after a deadline. This is affecting my work obviously - any tips would be useful and appreciated!

I’ve been thinking about it for months but currently feel comfortable in my job/the products I work on. I’d say I have a great work/life balance but I do know that I could be making 20-30% more and have better benefits if I left.
