For those of you who have already made Senior Manager, would you consider leaving for industry in a similar position now that you’ve put in all of the work to be that close to partner? I hear some say you’d be “crazy to throw that all that hard work away” and others say you’re still not necessarily that close anyway so it’s still a good time to move to industry, etc. Anyone with experience feel one way or the other or have any suggestions to consider?

I plan to switch to industry after a few years - honestly my lifestyle hasn’t changed from when I made $100k to $285k. I just save more and own a home now. I have enjoyed myself all throughout. If I were to make $500+ I don’t know that it will make me any happier.

Love to see this kind of introspection!

I think the hard part is knowing 1) How long it takes for you to make partner and 2) If you will ever become a partner. One of my mentors got strung along for 6 years and then was essentially told they weren’t making partner and asked to leave. It’s very hard to match partner compensation of course, but if you leave earlier in your tenure, you’re significantly more likely to be able to find a role and grow into a very seasoned executive and potentially surpass partner compensation.

I think you just never know which is just so tough. It’s obviously a great gig if you can get it. But if not, industry typically wouldn’t necessarily value those additional SM years significantly more than a newer SM, so the non-partner exit is super unfavorable.

Compensation at Deloitte stagnates. The typical base pay range before you become ppmd is 240-275k. Industry is able to match this easily and provides way better wlb. Pay for senior ppmd of course much higher and rarely what industry can provide

Retail, director strategy, 225 base, 25% bonus, 125k rsu

🤞🤞 for SM this year. I’ve thought about it, and there are very, very few positions I’d consider leaving for. Maybe in 4 or 8 years, but not any sooner.

What kind of firm initiatives does MBB require from it's practitioners? Ie here at D we have to work on proposals, recruiting, numerous PRD groups like learning and development , internal working group / chief of staff roles for practice leads etc. I'm wondering if this Kind of effort is also required from MBB?

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

Maybe it’s burnout from a job where all the cool work benefits you could brag to your friends about are gone bc you wfh now and don’t have access to your cool office and now you work around the clock because there’s no separation between home and work and your agency has done next to nothing to help with that balance and you’ve billed more hours per week than you ever had and now your friends and family are starting to comment on your workload, health, and demeanor. Maybe it’s Maybelline ✨

Asking for personal finance help. I’m contributing about $7.5k/year to my 401k based on my budget/spending. About to get lump sum of cash (sold car, tax returns, stimulus). Was thinking of just putting a little aside in cash for rainy day and invest the rest in brokerage acct., but would it make more sense to max out my 401k for tax purposes and use the lump sum as spending $ until it runs out? Currently 27 yr old, 73k salary in NYC, no debt, $10k in EM fund, maxed out Roth IRA for 2021. TIA
