Better experience, more money, didnt like the culture at my previous firm.

like

More money for similar hours, and far more opportunities for professional development

like

Stronger in my niche and partnership opportunities.

Getting away from toxic partners and a satellite office where I knew partners in my practice area were leaving. We had a drug addicted creepy sexual harasser in my group and he made all the female associates and staff very skeeved out.

Moving to a higher ranked firm bc my firm was really junior varsity and they didn't even know it. (I knew, because I had been a paralegal at higher ranked firms where there was better knowledge management, client service, work product, collections, etc)

like

Following a partner (and their clients) I loved working with.

like

Most recently left to change practice areas and to have enough work. Never had enough work (or the quality of work I wanted) to fill a normal work day at my last firm and was sick of feeling underutilized.

like

Larger practice group in my area. Better bonus structure.

I left my first job because the boss was insane and kept his hot mail-order bride in a glass office making copies and mailing stuff so he could keep constant watch over her. All the staff and attorneys were women and he was verbally abusive to everyone. I started that job during the last recession and he took major advantage of the situation and paid me the same as the paralegals. I quit with no notice. I just went in his office and quit on the spot after he verbally abused me in front of the entire firm. Had my husband come get all my shit at lunch. Got a $25K boost in salary at my next job.

I left my most recent firm because the partner wasn’t willing to loosen the reigns and let associates do depositions, hearings, argue motions, court appearances etc. (even associates who had years of experience doing it before coming to the firm). He wanted to keep us all locked in a closet to do grunt work and just make him look good without developing our own careers/reputations/skills. I actually took a tiny salary cut (but higher bonus potential) to go to a firm where I’d have a better ability to progress my litigation experience and get more visibility in our legal market.

Lateraled to an in-house role for slightly more pay and much less hours

More pay and less hours!?!? I want to go to there.

So I have a huge crush on my co worker, we’re on the same project and same job position but this is the first time I’ve had an office crush. We’re very friendly and chat almost through out the day. I also know that there’s a possibility of me shifting companies as soon as this project is over (Feb ‘23). What should I do?
A. Should I remain professional and not say a word? Wait till I’m out to make a move?
B. Casually ask him out?
C. Ask myself to get over it?

TIA!

Curious what y’all think. Planning to use the VA loan this spring and purchase our first home. Should we throw down a down payment? I will not have to pay the funding fee because I am >10% disabled.

Pros: instant equity. Slightly (barely) lower payment.
Cons: opportunity cost of cash.

Should you always negotiate? I never gave a range during the interview process, I had a TC # in my mind. Got an offer and TC was exactly what I would've asked for. I will take the job.

That said, is there any harm to negotiating for higher here? I don't have any data to back why I deserve a higher #, but feel it's a missed opportunity to just accept the first offer

Considering getting my nose pierced. It would be a really tiny gold stud, nothing bulky or sparkly. What are the chances this will impact my career…I’m 30, female, and a personal injury lawyer. Been wanting to do this for awhile, thought it would make me look unprofessional. But now I’m thinking life is short and no one would really care. Thoughts?
