How is everyone planning for potential layoffs?
Hello, I have received an offer from Southwest Airlines as a Associate Technology Analyst with their direct college hire program. Will be graduating in May with a degree in MIS and also have internships experience as a Business Systems analyst intern. The salary compensation started off at 66,500 but was looking for the 75k range and they got back to me saying the best they can do is 68,500. They also have a 401k company match up to 9.3%. Do you think this is a solid offer for this job market?

The beauty of COBRA is you can opt in retroactively. So as long as you don’t need medical care, you don’t pay a dime.
Pro
Correct. You must enroll within 60 days to be covered retroactively.
Pro
That $ amt you’re seeing is the full cost of your insurance plan. Insurance companies are greedy.
I would elect COBRA while looking for a short term plan as a cheaper alternative.
If you just want short term “coverage” but don’t actually have any doctors appointments in the next three months you can just wait it out for free, and elect the cobra coverage if you need it (for example you sprain your ankle and need to go to the hospital in 2 months, you can elect to get cobra coverage then and pay retrospectively). If the 3 months pass and you haven’t had to use it you’re all good and haven’t had to pay for anything, and then can look for other options in the marketplace (or hopefully have found a new job).
It’s a funny loophole.

Pwc1 is right. You can go 60-90 day without having to sign up or pay. You can also look at your state ACA plan as well.
This. Not sure what your financial situation is, but with little income you could qualify for a large subsidy and pay almost nothing for your insurance. If you truly have no household income, you could even qualify for Medicaid, which is free government insurance. my family went on Medicaid after being laid off in the 2008 recession.
Be careful with COBRA. Very expensive.
Pro
The cost shows how much the company was covering for you as part of your compensation.
I would love companies to show this at least at open season.
