I kept my last dog in her kennel in backseat with a blanket over it to block out the sun. She wouldn't stay off of me while I was trying to drive and was too jumpy to sit on my wife's lap. My dog before that would totally chill on the passenger seat or look out the window. I guess my point is some dogs just do better in cars than others no matter what you do. Both of mine were taken on drives within their first 6 months.

just to build - varies so much on the personality of the dog. my first dog was the chillest dog and loved her crate anywhere/anytime. we just left a crate in the car and she’d walk right in and fall asleep. my current dog - yikes - he’s high energy and hates crates and has to be near me. so he’s up front in a seat belt. NEVER have a dog in a car without a crate or some sort of restraint

I took my puppy everywhere with me when I drove someone that he could go or we would just drive around. He’s very comfortable. He can be crazy if he sees a deer or cat, so I always use a crass tested safety harness to secure him in my car. I use the Sleepypod Terrain.

My dog is on a harness also hooked to a seatbelt. He now gets in and out of the car himself, took a lot of practice to get him in. He gets in by stepping into the floor then jumping on the seat, treats played a big part in getting him to do that. He loves to ride in the car! 🚗

My dog does this too. Getting out of the car however is a lot of drama. He doesn’t want to jump out. Hasn’t figured out he can go to the floor then jump out. Resists being picked up. Haha. He loves the car rides though so I put up with it. And eventually grab him and pick him up to get him out of the car.

I keep the air carrier in the car and my dog sleeps in it all the time. He is small dog so it works and that’s what we have doing from day 1 all the time

I fold down my back seats and my pup just has the full back area including the trunk. He seems to love that. Safer than him being in the front seat (which is where we started). He’s pretty good at self braking when we turn corners or stop etc.
