For those that passed the SHRM-CP/SCP - how did you prepare to pass? How long did you study for- did you take any prep classes etc. How did you decide CP vs SCP

I studied for 4 months, a few hours a week, studying before and after work or on the weekends. There are some good study books Amazon that even offer a study timeline. There are also good prep videos on YouTube. I also utilized Quizlet which was great for flash cards. If you meet the requirements for SCP, why not get it. It tests a higher level of strategic analyses so the prep tests are helpful. I only spent $40 on the test prep book. I don’t think classes are necessary unless you learn best in that environment.

I primarily used the one by Joshua Rueda on Amazon. But a friend gave me one by Trivium and it was equivalent. Download Quizlet and then search shrm and you’ll find quizzes and flash cards. Every time I was going to open fb or ig, I forced myself to open Quizlet and do some flash cards. You can find time to study if you want!

You only need at least one reliable material. 2-3hrs a day will be enough. Do some practical exercises and use flashcards.

Curious what comp range you would expect for someone with 6 YOE in HR. Current title of Director with growth potential to exec team as first CHRO. About 150 employees at multiple locations. manages 2 employees right now, looking to add a third. At Director level 2.5 years before that was generalist. Located in Indiana and the organization is manufacturing. Bachelors degree and shrm certification.

I signed up for the SHRM CP exam. Anyone have fairly recent materials they’d be open to selling or sharing? Would love to not pay 700-1000 on access to the learning portal or a class. With my masters, I can’t get EY to cover the certification but it’s something I wanted to do this year.

Hello! I am in Charlotte and I am working for an Engineering Consulting company based out of Maryland. I am working on getting my SHRM certification in January. Right now I am making $65k (my last position was payroll specialist, and I just moved into the HR side of things this last month). Should I expect a pay raise in January after getting certified? I will be the only employee in the HR department of a company of 100+ employees.

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!

For those of you who have gotten your SHRM, what helped you study/prepare the most? How did you decide on the CP versus SCP? I'm currently about to hit three years of experience and have a masters in I/O but my highest position has been a Coordinator II role. However, my goals are to eventually be in a management role, should I do the SCP?

Are recruiters worth more than L&D specialists? We have a new recuiter that transferred in from another dept. & is already making more than me and has a higher comp range. We have same tenure & they have NO prev. recuiting experience. I should also add I have been helping cover recuiting in interim. I also help cover HR tasks, have my SHRM, 5 years of HR exp., and 2 degrees. Is the "value" for recruiters more than L&D? I feel a little taken advantage of, but want to know if I'm off base here.

I’m almost thirty and work in-house. Husband is a VC. We decided that kids are just not for us. I love kids and have nothing against them and often baby sit for others as well, but it’s just not something we want as a couple and we’re very happy with our decision right now. My MIL keeps telling me that we should have children or we will be discarded from the society and our social circles because we don’t have children. Anyone else have any thoughts or been in similar situation? Thanks.

Happy Halloween! Hope everyone stays safe today. It has been two months since my last role at a law firm. I had only gotten one interview or no callbacks since then.

I am unsure if my resume is wrong in terms of not tailoring my resume or working for multiple law firms for a few months due to being hired through a recruiting agency.

What should I do to get more callbacks/interviews? Should I reach out to HR/Recruiter directly? Should I get a paralegal cert? Should I do the programs on Forage?

While I'm a strong HRBP, I've yet to manage a team. And while I train managers on people leadership skills, I myself, haven't had a chance to flex those muscles.
