Is there any way to avoid over-contributing to my Roth IRA by the amount I already put in there?

When backdoor IRA is in play, can you consolidate funds with an existing IRA? Also, there a difference between “backdoor” and “mega backdoor” or are they synonymous?

In early Feb, I contributed $6K to a trad. IRA and converted the full amount to Roth IRA (my limit for 2020). In my ‘20 tax return, do I only fill out Part I of form 8606 & report the rollover in ‘21?
