For those that received a top MBA, looking back at your career would you have rather had an M7 MBA or a T15 MBA that was a half or full ride?

M7 with debt. I am 100% positive I would not have had the job opportunities or salary I have now without those connections

I'll back up S&1 even if they sound a little defensive. S& recruits at fewer places than MBB because they hire fewer people due to being a smaller organization. If your goal is to get into S& or MBB, an M7 MBA significantly increases your chances. S& only hires a couple people a year from my MBA. Same for MBB. They come to campus and do interviews, but we don't get a lot of attention. If your goal is to get ahead, some schools will give you a much bigger advantage than some others in the T15. If you want good enough, go T15. If you want best, go H/S > M7 > T10. It's really not an ROO calculation based on career earnings over MBA tuition. It's about life goals.

M7 no doubt. Like it or not, prestige matters very much in business schools, especially for those of us with a state school undergrad degree.

Depends on what jobs you want to pursue - I know people who rejected Wharton and took a lower ranked school on a full ride and then went to a FAANG. They weren’t interested in MBB or IB If you want to do IB but don’t attend a M7 like a Booth or a Harvard then getting into IB is a lot harder.

M7. I feel like I got pretty lucky with where I ended up. I did a weekend MBA at a T20 program. I'm happy with where I am now (strategy at a tech company). But if I were to start over and my goal were to climb as high as I could (either financially or career progress), I'd quit my job and go full time at the most elite school I could. My goal now isn't to go as high as I can. I enjoy my job, it's 100% remote, comfortable hours, and competitive comp. I don't feel the need to climb any higher. But if I wanted to climb higher, I'm sure a Harvard network could get me there faster.

I went to a T15 had an amazing job and had offers at BB. My Bain network is way more powerful than my B-school network and unless you got to HSW, probably more powerful than any other MBA network. Tons of people make it to MBB from T15 programs. More come from M7 programs. Go where you are going to be comfortable, where you can be you and where you feel gives you the best chance to excel.

I got into and attended an M7 while also in at a Couple T10 back ups. 100% would do the M7 over again. It’s not about the first job or two, those are kinda standardized (for the vast majority of large orgs) it’s about the exit, exit ops. The opportunities I’ve interviewed for have been largely with the former HSW/IB or MBB crowd and as a big four, the M7 MBA has really been the signaling effect I’ve needed to check the box

I would absolutely prioritize going to M7

M7 with debt. I went to a lower tier school and it already cost 2 years of career progression.

Left a T2 for MBB and lost that much tenure. MBB was largely inaccessible at my bschool.

I turned down M7 and went with full ride at T15…got into big 4 consulting and now exited with $375k total comp to a top tech company (5 years after graduating with mba) Very personal decision, what helped me is that I saw the companies I wanted to work for recruited at T15 Feels amazing being debt free Generally if it’s not HSW go with the full or partial ride…it really is HSW and then the rest

I didn’t get into a M7 and begrudgingly attended at top 15 with a partial scholarship which has worked out great for me. I interviewed with MBB in b school but got no offers and ended up at KPMG. I’m really happy and quite satisfied with how it turned out. That said, I would still recommend attending an M7 at full price versus a top 15 on scholarship assuming that you want to pursue a traditional path in banking / consulting.

For folks exiting to FAANG / Product at start ups or really any hot company. How do you go about networking to get the interview? Do you apply then cold email someone you may have an “in”with, or are you picking say 10 companies and then having warm contacts there that you’ll ping when you see a job. I’ve been passively looking for jobs but zero luck, I only want to leave for the right fit. Big 4 here so feel my brand won’t auto get me an interview like mbb/t2
