For those that recently left from consulting firms, more specifically from Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company, to go to another industry as an EA, would you say it has been a piece of cake or the workload feels the same? Thanks

I left BCG and went to a tech start up and I was so bored. Workload was way less, I wasn’t working with clients, felt like a glorified coffee runner. I worked for someone in C-suite but also helped support an entire department which was new for me, but the work was still very easy. Half my job was just ordering lunches. It sucked. I went back to BCG eventually.

I left the public accounting / tax industry to work at Bain. I would say the workload feels less, but only because I’m comparing to tax seasons (late March to April 15, late August to October 15, and January for tax forms). It’s not as rushed in my opinion. The busy days are more spread out at Bain and I feel my WLB is better. I can log off at 5pm and not feel guilty.

Or vice versus…you left a particular industry to join one of the big three consulting firms. Is it more work than you anticipated or is it equivalent to what you were doing before?

I left public relations, and then a small healthcare start-up to join BCG. I would say that it's similar to working at a large global PR firm - many layers, much lingo to learn, lot of travel, both domestic and global.

Yes, I did.

I was interviewed for tech role in Gartner. They confirmed that they would be extending an offer to me on Monday. But I didn’t hear from them after that neither they replied to my follow-up mail. I have never experienced this with any other companies. Is it common for Gartner? Or should I consider they’re ghosting and let go of it.

Saw this on LinkedIn and had to share. Would you take a job with compensation like this? Why, why not? I’m curious.

To me, I think it’s unrealistic to expect someone to work for no cash comp for four months. It’s laughable.

I applied to work for my dream company as an EA and the interview process was going well. They loved me but did not think I was a good fit for the role I applied for. They did however think I would be a good fit for another role opening up in a few weeks. I expressed that I was open to the role but I have not heard back since. It has been about a month. Should I give up on my dream company or trust the process? I have reached out twice so far.

Anybody here work in Canada? Specifically Vancouver? The cost of living here is outrageous, and I feel like I don't have a fair compensation. I'm currently making $75k with a $5k bonus as an EA with 6+ years experience, and 5+ years experience in my company's industry. Our company doesn't give out yearly inflation raises, so I feel like I'm falling behind. Is this fair, or should I be going after more? Can anyone in Vancouver, Seattle, Canada etc. shed some light on their salary?

Can anyone recommend a resume writer that is not charging hundreds of dollars per hour? Many of the writers I've been finding and interviewing are for more senior level/executive management decision makers. I can't afford to pay $600 to $800 or more for 3 to 4 hours of work to help me craft my resume appropriately. I know it's worth it but those costs are out of my budget.

I feel like I should wear a shirt to work that says “read your assistants emails before asking questions”. One of my bosses asked for a travel change and I sent them the times and prices per class types.
Their next three emails? Answered one question per email. So after they said time I asked which class, they asked the prices (which I copy pasted from the previous message) and then they asked if the prices were less for the other flights, and then they chose one. Five hours later. READ!
