D1 I think you are fine as long as the baby powder is talc free. I've gotten the J&J talc free (or so they claim) lavender scented powder before, and it smells better (unlike the typical BP smell).
@D1 Whole Foods sells a small talc free baby powder that's great for traveling. I don't know the brand though.
I can actually vouch for this... I began using Drybar dry shampoo religiously in January, and although I LOVE it, I've definitely noticed thinning in the areas where I spray it the most. I often wondered which is worse: 1. over shampooing / styling, or 2. Clogging the follicle with dry shampoo and experiencing more shedding.
Noooooo!!! 😩
I switched over to baby powder and it's so much better than any dry shampoo I've tried--definitely worth a try!
I use to use baby powder too but give my dark hair it made me look gray
Do you think the baby powder has the same follicle clogging effects? I used to use it and it didn't work as well / didn't like the smell, but I didn't experience thinning like I have with DS.
Apparently baby powder doesn't clog follicles - I think it may actually help hair grow because it absorbs sweat that can clog follicles. However, after the J&J lawsuit, I'm nervous about using that. I feel like we can't win!
I know, sucks. Saves so much time. I think using it 1-2 times per week is probably OK as long as you don't overdo it.
I like the colored dry shampoo for when I am a little behind on scheduling my hair appointments. It's such a life saver to cover up my roots.
Pwc 1 - you're right! Sadly I haven't been able to find a travel sized one without talc. Womp womp.
LADIES. STOP. use dry shampoo. It's better than washing hair every day. Then approx 1/week or maybe every 2 weeks use clarifying shampoo. Paul Mitchell has a nice one - it's called shampoo 3. It's use a lot for swimmers to stop out chlorine. The clarifying shampoo will take all remnants of the dry shampoo away! Problem solved
