I’ve done three rounds over 7 years. The coaching part is helpful. The 360 they collect is invaluable. One round was subordinates and seniors, one mostly clients, one mostly peers. It helped me materially inflect some style things.
Some of it was hard but almost all of it was helpful. I’d rather know and evolve than not know and have it persist.
F. Very curious as well!
I've always wondered if these were just scams
F.
Our firm contracts with an external provider and if you sign up for one, they send you a questionnaire and then a bunch of profiles that kinda fit your ask in terms of type of focus / areas that you want to be coached on.
I took up the service and interviewed 3-5 career coaches and found one that “clicked” in terms of style and background and have just started. Will see how it goes!
DM me if that’s ok?
I used one for improving “executive presence”. I liked it. Tips and tricks, both internally and externally on how to act more confident, especially with more senior leaders. I’m a fairly young MBB Partner and much younger than many of my clients (providers).
Oh - it was free through the Firm.
I’ve used an internal one. Found it very helpful. I would find someone who understands the business, whom you respect, but will give you hard messages. It’s worth it.
I have done two plus an executive leadership cohort. Exceptionally valuable.
Make sure they know/understand your firm and it’s expectations/culture.
I had never thought about getting a 360 including clients but that sounds very helpful. I have scheduled coaching for the first time and interested to see what insights I get.
Intuitively I think it will be very helpful not so different from a physical coach which is helpful even if I know how to train.
I've done a few rounds. My biggest recommendation is to get somebody who has experience in consulting - and preferably in the consulting firm you work for. So much of what we do as partners is industry specific, and having someone who understands the internal dynamics and politics is much more impactful than the generic advice that an external advisor could give.
I have a good one. She helped me a lot.
