For those who made the jump from biglaw to midlaw, how long did the recruiting process take? I just started interviewing last week and have a ton more interviews this week, and I’m already exhausted balancing that with a current busy workload. And how many firms did folks apply to/approx how many interviews did you do in total? Trying to get a sense of how long this process is for people.

Best interview prep for a deals team that focuses on technology due diligence, integrations, separations? I'm in IT mgmt consulting and trying to make the switch to deals / M&A so don't have real world experience to draw from. What do I need to learn / know? Recommended resources?

I was hoping that it will take 2-3 months at least to find a job opportunity and then when i serve 90 days notice period then I'll have around 2years of experience. But i got an offer letter in the first company i interviewed at and they are offering 80% hike.

I gave 2 technical rounds for devops role in MindTree. The guy from 2nd round only took 10 minutes to took the interview.

Now I got call from HR telling that the 2nd panelists mentioned that I have no client handling experience but good in skills.
I was into onsite and me and the guy never had any discussion like this.. He barely asked me anything in 10 minutes.
I am completely clueless and never faced this things in life life...

anyone keep a car in midtown? How much is parking a month?

I’m a 3rd year in biglaw, worked out of the NYC office before wfh. Went on vaca to Miami recently and absolutely loved it... thinking of moving there. My firm has an office in Miami too. Few Qs: 1) are big firms typically ok with office transfers? (I heard I have a good rep with the seniors and partners). 2) is it easy to just change your address in workday to FL so that income taxes are not deducted? Obviously I’ll have to work with an accountant for end of year taxes and such. Cont’d below...

How many real hours does it take to reach 8-10 billable hours? First year associate here wondering what a 8-10 billable hour day would look like now that I’m seeing my workload ramp up slowly but surely.

Has anyone left big law to go in house in the middle of their second year (corporate associate)? Looking back, so you think it was a good move? Do you wish you stuck it out a little longer in Big Law?

When do partners decide when an associate is good enough to make partner? I’m a senior and it is extremely clear to me when an associate has it or doesn’t, and moreover it doesn’t take eight years to figure it out; it takes just one or two matters for me to know if they’re adding value or are ultimately just a commodity. It’s hard for me to avoid the conclusion that associates are largely being strung along by partners who are going to can them at some point, long after that decision is made.
