If you’re not living together, what expenses are you splitting regularly? Dates?
I would say that there’s no “right” way to do it. Everyone puts different weight on a variety of factors, so it comes down to how it feels to you and your SO.
I would say net - I mean they don’t really keep the tax. But damn that’s a large difference due to tax policy. I hope they have a good reason to stay there 😂

Definitely net. It’s about how much disposable income each of you actually has access to lol who cares how much each of you pays in taxes

Most people would do gross but I also don't know anyone who splits expenses and doesn't have the same taxes (since they live together)
Net makes more sense
Net for sure. I think a much fairer benchmark is based on take home pay after tax & deductions, it’s not really fair to base it on pre-tax as it’s not up to them how much tax they pay.
