For those with ADHD in public accounting, how are you managing the busy season with the med shortage?

I’ve thought about applying to other jobs because I’m having trouble getting any work done. But I’ve worked in industry before this while unmedicated and hated every second of the repetitive tasks and same month close stuff over and over again.

What jobs do you have that are compatible with your ADHD? I get bored and depressed very easily by work as soon as the new and shiny feeling stops

I take Vyvanse which has been spared from the shortage, but even though there is some repetition in the work, I do regulatory reporting (Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare) for hospitals, and it’s fun and varied work for me.

If you’re interested, you may want to talk to whomever is the partner involved with healthcare clients and see if that’s an option. That’s how I got into regulatory reporting in the first place was at my first job out of grad school at a CPA firm.

Good luck!

And that is why I like cost report prep. I’m now working for a healthcare organization, so I’ve been working with one hospital for the past 5 years and another one for the past 3. I’ll get switched around a bit in the next few years, but it has helped me establish and develop good relationships with the people at these hospitals, hone my skills in areas of reporting that I normally don’t delve into (organ acquisition/transplant being the main one), and do something meaningful for hundreds of thousands of people, since Medicare payments to hospitals are dependent on them getting the cost report submitted to CMS by their deadline.

It’s a powerful yet overlooked role in healthcare. It’s fun to be the person behind the curtain!

Hello,

I just wanna say that my head feels better since I take lion's mane extract. I stopped zoning out, I have less narrations in my head simultaneously. I can actually do tasks on almost time. If someone wants to try, it's mandatory to take vitamin c with it. It's a life changer for me. I wanted to share it.

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

My ADHD has been a massive barrier for me in my career. I can’t stay at a job for more than 1.5 years.

My ADHD keeps me from being a consistently great performer. When I manage my ADHD, I am amazing. And when I fail to manage it, I fall short. And everyone then wonders why I can’t do my basic job responsibilities.
It’s frustrating. I am V qualified, talented and capable, but this thing is killing me. Everyone I know is getting ahead and I’m constantly struggling even though I’m ambitious.
