For those with unlimited PTO, how much do you actually take?

I take less than the normal standard PTO (say 20ish days). I found unlimited PTO a trap because they’ll just put you on work and you won’t have a chance to take the PTO. Also even if you are lucky enough to take it, you are being pushed for the constant requests from the team, so you end up having crazy hours before and after your PTO.

At least you get a carryover or payouts for earned PTO. Unlimited PTO is just use it or lose it.

I’ve probably taken an average of 25-30 days, inclusive of firm “flex days” or whatever around the holidays, since I started 6 years ago at GT. I was told that I would’ve started as an A1 with 17 days, and that managers were closer to 30 days of PTO (I never confirmed if this is actually true). Either way, my goal was never to be under what I would’ve got with PTO, cause then I’d be a sucker. Even if I’m not doing anything (which I get as an excuse from a lot of new staff), I’ll put in for a few days or a week here and there so I’m taking time

like

I’ll take 5-6 weeks overall. And encourage my team to book in their leave now. 2 weeks at Christmas. Had two weeks already this year but single weeks. Will have a week after Labor Day plus sporadic days. Everyone performs better after a proper break.

I take the same as I took before, but don’t have the stress of worrying about them. It’s really kind of nice, I’m very pro-unlimited PTO. For me it has nothing to do with the actual time off and more to do about the drama related around taking time off so it’s quite nice

I take like 25-30 days depending on my schedule.

Pls take more than this

I am aiming to hit around 25 which is what I got before we moved to unlimited, but if I take a few more, I'm not gonna sweat it.

Same.

I took around 35-40 days, was a bit more than what I’ve done in past years because I moved at one point and then said screw it and filled random unassigned days this summer that I knew would be a wash anyway. I’ve never had push back on taking time off, it’s always a simple process to request in advance and then my schedule is built around it. But I find that managers are sometimes still working on their time off which just sucks to me

So I take the 20 EY holidays plus about another 20 vacation days.

Do any of you at EY ever have issues actually taking your vacation? Given we work with people across regions on multiple projects at once, who do you ask for approval for longer vacations? I feel like I usually just add it in ARMS and tell people I won’t be there X days. Rarely do I ever get pushback (but rarely do I ever take all my vacation days)

For moms in California - can anyone explain to me how the FMLA/Paid Leave works in coordination with EY’s sixteen weeks? It seems that all the new moms take 6 months and I’m trying to figure out how that works if we’re only given 16 weeks. My husband and I are currently waiting for an adoption placement so I have no idea when I’ll need to use it, but I’m hoping it’s sometime soon :) Since I’m not actually pregnant, asking these questions feels weird, but I keep reminding myself it’s okay. Sick of biglaw but I want to stay one more annual bonus season. I’m seriously burned out and would like to shift gears but I’d like to leave after ending my 5th year. I am potentially looking to just try and hide/keep my head low to avoid work as much as possible/“slack off” and wonder how possible is to do that for a year without getting fired? I aim to maximize vacay time, and just in general try to avoid any work I don’t absolutely have to do.

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.
