For those with unlimited PTO policies, what have you done about people who are taking advantage? I know we can decline requests but other than that, how have you addressed that conversation of trending high in time off?

Is the issue their reduced work product due to being OOO all the time? You have to address the real issue here, if so.

Thank you for responding. There have been a few quality issues lately but idt quality and errors are related to vacation time off. I think if there are missed deadlines because of time off then that’s the performance issue. In this case it’s a couple things, #1 it seems excessive compared to others on the broader team and certainly compared to those with the same manager. The other thing is that when she’s not there the work doesn’t get done so yes, that piece we can address. And last, i don’t want it to become a morale issue where others on her team begin to be resentful because they’re there and work. People today don’t really care about the effect it has on others as much as I’d like so I’m not sure that’s a real sticking point when having this discussion. Thanks for your input.

We call them in. But only if their performance was affected. Just the fact that they use their PTO does not necessarily give us the authority to decline their request without valid reasons.

I will be honest, we haven't really had anyone take advantage. We rolled it out a little over a year ago and I think people are still being cautious so it doesn't go away.

Oh that’s great!

Hi all. Went through an interview with a pay range of 150-160k; I provided my range as 165-175k and was offered 135k. The manager said he can get to my range given performance.

What sort of performance metrics/guidelines should I set before I accept? Also, any suggestions on how I can improve other benefits instead (PTO, etc.)? Thank you in advance!

I am graduating with a CS degree and my job isn’t very coding heavy. It’s a lot of using tools like snowflake, powerBI, etc. I am worried this could make me less valuable down the road if I don’t continue to code professionally. To be fair though, I don’t see myself coding heavily 5 years from now, I think a role like product manager or solutions architect would better fit my skill set. Do any professionals in the tech field have any thoughts?

So I had a job interview this week to work as a consultant for another company. The job had little to nothing to do with my profile. (I was pointed to have this interview for this position by the consultant company, so the interview was with the client company's hiring manager). I guess it was a bit of my mistake not asking for a complete written role description, so I just trusted the consultant recruiter on his description of the role. And by it I was unsure if the position could be a fit ...
