For us NYers, has anyone’s firm given a concrete estimate/indication of when we’ll be expected to be back in the office? We’ve been having regular all-hands updates, but they always keep it vague (will follow gvt guidelines, only when we feel comfortable, etc). Seems like other industries (tech obviously, but also big4) have been more forthcoming - wfh through end of the summer, etc., - even as the reopen momentum seems to grow in the city. Any info/educated guesses?

My firm has also been vague without any real info. I think it’s safe to say we’re not going back this summer. Our summer program is going to be fully virtual. Can’t imagine things ending anytime before Labor Day, and even then I expect they’ll be doing waves of people coming in and not having everyone in at the same time.

Also, I think people need to remember unless your firm owns the building, the firm can’t open up unless the building itself is open. They don’t have control over that if they’re just renting.

I suspect all firms (especially in NY) are taking the same approach and being vague because they know as much as us, which as you know, is not much.

^A2 yeah, got that. Just seems odd that companies in other industries (occupying different floors of the same buildings in many cases) are willing to put dates out there for employee planning purposes, but law firms are all holding their cards so close to their chest.

Perhaps odd is the wrong word lol

I’m hearing July-ish (from someone on the staff calls) but not forcing anyone to come in who doesn’t feel comfortable.

NYU resuming in person classes in the fall. Now I’m thinking we’re back in the fall too instead of 2021

Hi All,

I am 12 yoe, working at a very stable product based organisation (not NEC).
But I want to switch to a better role & compensation.

I got an offer from Thoughtworks GGN as a lead consultant. Being a mother, I have anxiety about joining TW, since it is service based.

1. Bcoz of the recession and hiring is not for specific project, is it the right time to join TW or is it risky w.r.t job security?
2. How flexible is TW for WFH or it depends on the client?
3. How is WLB?

Please help..

Need job advice:

I recently got an offer at a prestigious company making almost double what I make now (OTE). It is also a promotion on the job title which will help for long term career prospects.

The only downfall is I also have a final round interview with literally my dream job later this week.

The company who gave me the offer wants an answer before Thanksgiving. Do I take the good offer and run with it? Or do I roll the dice at the chance at my dream job?

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.
