I’m 31 and getting my MBA right now. This is a great thread to read as I start the first week of my classes. What other pearls of wisdom can y’all share? Folks in my cohort are all scrambling around frantically printing documents and spending hours prepping for cases and assignments each day. The recruiting mayhem will begin soon. What should I focus on most? Networking, recruiting and then academics? What should be the order of priority?
SM1, if you're recruiting for consulting/banking, then:
1- focus on recruiting but make sure to keep track of all the people you're going to meet. You can work on those relationships later
2- networking
3- just make sure you pass your classes
Similar to others, studying too much and not networking!

Not travelling enough... I’d do it all over again
agree with BCG1 - not traveling enough internationally with classmates
Not getting to know my professors better
Ibm1 was there a hot professor in particular? ;)
ya
Ha 🙂. Professors are an under appreciated part of your network. Most are still doing consulting on the side, keep in touch w alum, and can make critical introductions. We had a few profs who even gave MbB a list of top students prior to internship recruiting season. 10+ years out, I wish I had a few that I could reach out to to bounce career ideas off of, etc
Almost none. Good advice that i got going in ws to make a list of your goals and stick to them. For me the top one's were: get a consulting internship/job, pursue international opportunities, pursue a specific non profit program my school offered, make awesome friends / have a great time.
Once you know your goals it makes it easier to prioritize between class / job networking / and social life. It also helps you focus on the extracurriculars you're really interested in (and definitely skip any you're not interested in, maximize your free time and enjoy yourself)
No regrets. How else would you have completed MBA without debt?
STDs?? What about folks who are married?
