For years I didn’t think I wanted children, probably because I wasn’t with the right person in my 20s. Now I am with my husband and in my late 30s, we have started trying with the thinking that it doesn’t hurt to try. But I am starting to get very disappointed every time I can feel my period is coming…

You might want to skip the “try for a year and see what happens” thing that many people do. And skip right to having basic fertility testing done (talk to your OB about blood work and such). Just in case, so you don’t lose a year, should you need/want to pursue a little bit of help getting pregnant. Also, try tracking ovulation, if you aren’t already — you obviously don’t want to miss the important window of opportunity. I had my kids at 34 and 36 and plenty of people have kids in their 40s. The feeling of disappointment when your period comes is totally normal when you’re hoping to get pregnant, no matter your age. Good luck!!

Or get Mira fertility device for tracking ovulation - I got pregnant on the second try after I started using it. Good luck!

There’s always adoption if it doesn’t work out naturally! A lot of babies, kids, and teens need a good, loving home.

Definitely is but it is a long process. It can take years so you may want to start exploring this option sooner rather than later, if it's a road you're considering.

I second this!

Also here to say that having a baby takes 2 people. Have your husband get checked out as well.

Definitely find a method and start tracking your cycles (and write it down). It’s helpful info for your doc to see and it can easily diagnose hormone imbalances, etc.

Do a modern fertility test. Know what your levels are so you can be informed. You can also have your husband tested as well. Knowledge is power

Well I thought I was getting my period and was disappointed when I was trying as well..and then it turned out to be implantation cramping! Legit feels the same as the initial period cramps brewing, but lasts like 4 days. Currently 6 weeks pregnant! Don’t lose hope at the FIRST sign of your period coming!

like

Keep trying! My youngest was born right after I turned 43. I honestly didn’t think I was having any more kids (or could because I had multiple miscarriages), so don’t give up hope. Sending positive thoughts your way! 🙏🏻💖

IF you do go down the IVF route - make sure to do your research. I used the IVF my OB/GYN suggested thinking her recommendation was sound enough. It's a very expensive decision to make. I wasn't happy with our IVF people but we were too financially invested to switch practices. With two failed cycles, we called it. Of course you have to prepay up front and it took 7 months to get a refund of unused services.

Another vote to get fertility testing done as soon as possible. I have two children that were conceived naturally and easily and now I’m trying for my third. I’ve been trying for a year and a half and about to start IUI. I got my period yesterday and it was just another horrible feeling. Instantly ruined my day. I wish you all the best on your fertility journey! <3

Also, track your ovulation! I find the wearables way easier than the ovulation sticks or tracking BBT manually. I have the Ava bracelet but I’ve heard there are much better options out there. Seems expensive at first but it’s SO easy and could be less expensive then ovulation sticks in the long run.

Whenever I talk to him about something where we disagree he just shuts down and that’s the end of the conversation, so I can’t imagine having a conversation about this will go well.

Just found out my abusive ex made partner this year. We were together almost 4 years until I had the courage and help of a therapist to leave him last year. We met through friends, work at different Big 4, and are similar in age so no weird power dynamics apply except for the huge salary gap when I was an associate and he a senior manager. Trying not to sound vengeful and I thought I was okay with a year of therapy but I can’t believe the sociopath who almost killed me made it.
