@A1, without LinkedIn, how am I supposed to job search during the day...
Death to social media. Just don't do it while working. It's hard to kick the habit but you gotta do it. No Facebook, Instagram, reddit, even linked in during work hours. You can give yourself the dopamine boost for checking it after work. That's the only way I manage it.
I have a high level to-do list for my different engagements and I don’t look at any social media on my work comp. I really limit myself to my financial sites and one news source. Really helps to stop wasting time when I switch between tasks
Aside from limiting social media, I keep a paper to do list for work as it helps keep me on track more instead of an electronic one (weirdly I use an electronic one for my personal to do list), I write everything on it that needs done. I make it a game to try and get stuff crossed off the list all day. I try not to let the 1000 little things pile up so get those done same day. If it’s a larger project then I do try and break it down and list all the pieces of it. I go through my list through the day - if I send an email and need a reply to proceed with a task I note it in the margin of the to do list - emailed, then a w for wait for anything where I am waiting. I follow up as needed each day until I can go to the next step. If I set up a meeting as a next step I put “mtg” next to the item on my list, and if there’s something I need to work on then and I have what I need then I play tricks like - let me work on it for 10 minutes and just outline the information that I do know... often I will get immersed in it then and time will fly by. If I have a critical task that I have to focus on I use headphones and tell my team please try not to disturb me for the next x minutes as I have to get xyz completed... often if I am having issues concentrating I will knock off the more menial tasks first so I am still progressing in something - expenses, travel plans, answering emails, etc. often if I have all the admin stuff done I can better focus. If I have work to do at night in hotel I try and keep it to work that I need to be able to do without interruption. These are some of the things that help me. Good luck!
How did y’all break yourselves of the habits, though.
Honestly, too much structure and extensive planning are exhausting to me. I prefer winging it - with an analyst or two to remind me if I miss something (which happens once a month)
I honestly have a personal physical scrum board that is in front of my desk. I order my sticky notes by due date and color code them. I work within the confines of sprint schedules so it is pretty rare for me to add anything to the board other than at the beginning of the week

Block 20 minutes at a time (on google calendar or an alternate calendar) devoted to a piece of a task - like create these 2 slides of 10 or set up the inputs sheet for a model, then just commit to actually doing that for 20 min. Much easier to set a time limit rather than i'll start at 3... Ok 3:15... Ok 3:45... You can convince yourself that 20 min isn't that long, and once you've started a task it gets much easier to keep going, and if you stop at 20 min, hey, you did what you said you'd do, so break for a brief moment and then set a new 20 min task
May not work for you, but I have moderate ADD (i used to take methylphenidate but stopped) and it works well enough for me, esp on days where I dont have deadlines to motivate me
Just accept the to-do list ritual as mandatory part of this profession and submit yourself. Dive into deep water and hold your breadth until all those check marks are in place. Cheers 🍷
Strategies for breaking down items into less overwhelming pieces and all that.. I guess I’m just curious what your various tactics are that work the best
