Very interested to hear this. In my opinion Forensics gives you a lot of transferable skills. You may not be able to go into a straight up accounting role but you could probably go into a finance role if you have been on the dispute advisory side. I think this is such a new field the exit opportunities have not been sorted out yet. This field has been around for a while but just started becoming popular.

I think forensics gives you a ton of transferable skills. Honestly much more so than 3/4ths of the service lines in public accounting/consulting firms. However, it’s such a new and somewhat small field that I don’t think it’s perceived that way in industry and so people feel like they don’t have exit opps. When I was in audit I got contacted by recruiters on a daily basis for accounting, consulting, internal audit, and finance roles that I felt wholly unqualified for. Now that I’m in forensics I feel like I could easily transfer to those roles and perform well but recruiters don’t reach out to me for anything other than forensics openings - it’s perceived as a niche field even though the skill set is not niche at all

Yeah I’ve been loaned to M&A projects before and felt that the financial modeling skills developed in forensics are comparable. I had no issues doing M&A work.

Yes, after 15+ years with a caveat. I get paid a lot more in my forensics role than anything from industry. So even though I get calls, they come with significant pay decreases and would only make sense from someone at an audit firm. The most calls come from other firms looking for Partners.

Good feedback here. I’d also be interested to hear what more people from non Big4 think as well. But they’re probably busy on all the work they’ve taken from us the past few years 😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

If you want to leave and go to industry unless you want to do internal audit or run an investigations group, if you want to make similar money you need an MBA. Leaving as an experienced director you’re missing the ran my own team of 20+ component.

No idea

Getting and MBA from Forensics shouldn’t be that hard. The work experience should lend itself well to a top MBA .

I’m saying that if you’re 5 years in you can bail out and get an mba because you’re probably at a point in your life where it makes sense. To reboot. If you’re 15-20 years in, it’s a huge undertaking. Obviously a lot of the people talking about feeling they have comparable skills who have been doing M&A -ish modeling probably can bounce out, but I’ve been doing investigations which don’t really translate well to a pivot. But to go do an mba I’m giving up 2 years of salary and a hundred grand tuition.
