I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I worked in Forensics at a Big 4 and have a CFE. It’s a lot of fun. It’s very project based and you’re there to investigate something. It ranges from a whistle blower case where we perform a lot of e-mail review, time and expense analysis (if the case is misuse of funds) or document translations (many in the team are fluent in two or more language). There’s also a lot of mediation between two parties, ultimately you’re brought in because one party suspects something so things will get heated. It used to be tough going on site knowing the party did not want me there but now idgaf. I’m there to do my job and if they have nothing to hide, they should have no problem with me being there. But of course, 80% of the time we find something. It’s also a lot of travel. I personally love it.
I have both, neither were required for my job. I would say if you’re only picking one and have the time, I would choose the CPA since the CFE isn’t well known in Big4 although in industry, I heard some fraud compliance groups require it.
My roommate does it (also works at EY). She works in money laundering and basically all she does is look through hundreds of transactions and writes papers on why each one isn’t money laundering
Is she a cpa? Or does she have any other ceritifications?

Sounds sexier than it actually is
True. Most of the work is very tedious. But testifying is a rush.
