Any in-house counsel in here willing to post their company, level or YOE, and total comp breakdown? If you’re comfortable, please consider posting both your current stats and what your stats were when you first moved in-house. If there’s any other information that you want to share, please include that too (e.g., hours, interesting perks, etc.). Info on in-house salaries is pretty hard to come by, and it would be great to compile some data points here! Facebook Amazon Google Netflix Apple

Any required number of years in big law?
No. The sweet spot is 2-3 years because you’re network is big enough to make a difference but young enough to not have lateraled yet. That said, will talk to anyone with a JD that wants to recruit. I graduated in ‘11 from Brooklyn. Ended up a crappy litigation boutique. 10 people on my class got big law jobs due to recession. And I did just fine.
Billed over $5m? What does that mean?
I billed my clients and generated fees totaling over 5M for placements I made in 2021.
How does the comp work?
Our fee is a percentage of first year salary. Historically, 25%. My clients are the more prestigious firms so I get 30-35. However, some firms are going as high as 50% for high priority roles in this market. I placed an ‘18 jd (240k base) - fee was $120k. In my shop, The recruiter gets anywhere from 55%+ of that depending on variables we can discuss privately. Most firms pay their recruiters 35% -50%.
Checking in. And seconding question on comp.

I’m a hiring partner (part of the reason I’m on this app so I can check the pulse of the market) and OP is right in terms of comp and the like. Also, I think OP is telling the truth. That being said, you still have to have drive, hustle, selling skills, an understanding of each firms needs, and an uncanny ability to meet and make genuine friends with new people (OP, tell me where the lie is?). I already know OP is straight killer by this post alone, but just go into eyes wide open. And I honestly think y’all should if that’s what you want to do.
