Consulting Exit Opportunities

Found a great opportunity building out a team at one of the unicorn tech. My close friend is on an interview panel and his manager is the hiring manager. I think I will be given a serious look but...

No way. Not for a 40% loss. There’s a slim chance it’s worth it if you’re dying to get into product management

No. God no.

It will take you a long long time to get that 40% back. That is a crazy pay cut and then add on the commute. That’s 2 hrs on a good day right?

It will be 40% pay cut and 2hr commute one way. Would you consider it? It will be a great resume builder...

No way. The commute alone would be a huge disincentive for me.

If you take the job, I’d relocate to cut down on the commute but also make sure it’s worth the pay cut! There’s more to this world than money but that’s a significant change so make sure you are doing it for the right reasons

No. I work for a unicorn now, and a 40% paycut and a 2 hour commute is not an incentive at all.

What’s a unicorn tech?

2 hr commute one way? Are you kidding right now?

Many people in the Bay Area do something similar (but not as bad). Google shuttle from SF to Mountain View takes about 1.5 hours one way!

Thanks everyone. This confirmed my feeling that I shouldn’t even apply for it. I can take either lower pay (I will still be in mid to high $200k) or long commute, but not both. It’s actually no longer a unicorn since they IPOed recently but even the potential stock appreciation is probably not worth it.

Op there is also a question of what are you passionate about. No one can put a price tag on your passion, not even you. I feel the fact that you are asking if this is worth it shows you believe the work is more exciting than what you are doing at AP. Personally I believe passion is more preferable.

I had 60 day late payment of 35 bucks in Jan. It was new Amex Hilton card I opened for stupid points. It was reported and my credit score had been consistently dropping from last 6 months. It was 780 and now is 735. I realized this 3 months and been paying my credit card bills immediately. Infact I have overpaid each card to have negative balance so my credit utilization is almost zero. What else I can do to repair the damage. I am applying for homeloan and this is big issue to get best rate

Some of these posts are ridiculous. They’re like just exited consulting to FAANG/Niche Startup with $150k base and $400k TC with 6 months of experience, you can do it too! Then they ghost or explain that they are a former SWE 😬 coming from MBB. Going to some super Niche role that people with crazy backgrounds are recruited for. Congrats, but not everyone has that background

I still don’t see a ton of agency side media jobs their mostly client side and it seems super competitive given the current state of unemployment.
