Found out a colleague received same promotion I did, and did considerably less work. Do I go to management and complain? Or just chalk it up as life is unfair?

You just worked harder than you needed to

There was a study that showed people are happier making less money if they knew their colleagues made even less than them 😂

What do you think your complaint will accomplish? You'll get double promoted and/or our colleague will lose his/her promotion? Or management will realize you're pretty and immature and probably not ready for any additional interpersonal responsibilities?

OP Mck1 is on point. You accomplish nothing and just tarnish your reputation. Also you work harder now that makes you more experience and valuable in the long run getting future promotions faster

OP, go back to your career manager (and Senior Associate) and explain to them that you're looking for a promotion next year and want to know what you need to do. I often hear stories about folks who aren't promoted because their management didn't know they were looking for one.

These things happen; if your colleague was surprised by his promotion, it's possible he's not ready and could struggle go further as quickly in the future. My VP had an interesting insight... he never felt he was promoted as quickly as he should have, but looking back, he feels he was promoted when he was ready. Granted, easy to say when you're a VP, and it doesn't mean people don't get promoted doing less. Just keep doing what you're doing and build on that.

Just think - there might have been someone who did more work than you, but didn't get promoted coz they sucked at politics. How would you react if they complained? The

With EY1 on this, colleague received promotion without doing even 25% of what I did, and I didn't receive a promotion. I hadn't played the politics right. Life IS unfair. I learnt my lesson and moved on. Keep doing what you're doing, it's clearly good because you got promoted. Continue on building your brand/personality/network/politics playing capability/(insert any buzzword that firm leaders throw at us).

Thanks for the feedback. I do not want to downgrade what my colleague has done, he just did not put forth the effort and earn as many merits for our group. It's a bitter pill to swallow, and my knee jerk reaction is to ask why the field isn't even. My colleague was surprised with his promotion as well. I'll suck it up and keep pushing, but this has left a bad taste in my mouth.

OP- consider this experience a milestone. We all experience some version of this one way or another while working in a big corporate environment like this.

Yes, run your own race. In companies this big, a lot of career things are simply random

That's pretty standard practice for promoting people at BAH. And that's why I left.

Complain about what? Good CLM so yes I think you should. That person may have played the politics game better or did something else you don't know about.

Complain that why was I required to show tangible and measurable results, and they were not.

A2 so true. I took a class economics of happiness and it was basically all about how our happiness depends on what we know about how everyone around us is doing

Good points

If someone can verify this? I have seen so many posts here and on Quora too, that TCS release the salary structure breakup after the interview rounds, but do not send the offer letter, even after acceptance of salary. The HR person won't deny you on the face, but keep on delaying that offer letter release would take time. Is this true? Do a reputed company like TCS make such fake promises or raise false hopes in candidates?

If I don't, I'll be at Silver next year, but idk what material differences are b/t Gold and Silver besides upgrades at 24h instead of 48h. Worth it?
