I just got an offer for Accenture’s consulting development program and am wondering if I should negotiate my initial offer as a new grad with little consulting experience. I got another offer for EY business transformation but it pays less.
How do I ask ACN for more money and should I mention my other offers?
Any advice is appreciated!

$5k isn’t a big difference, so not a big deal to stay put. But if you’re truly upset, you’ve learned a lesson in advocating for yourself and can negotiate for yourself at a new firm. You got this 💪
As A1 said, 5k isn't a lot, but you learned something valuable about how much you should trust your company and all that. You can choose to stay now and negotiate your next role, or decide to try to jump ship to make up the difference. Without sizeable experience, your best bet is likely the former, as unfair and unfortunate as that seems.
Yup, what you agreed to is what you agreed to, they can change the game whenever it fits their need.
Start talking to your peers and see if any other peers are also dealing with the same issue, if enough of you are in the same situation, the cause could be worth fighting if you feel strongly enough and you can get the support of your peers, you could get your pay raised to what ever the highest salary given was for your new grad hire group.
Learn everything you can now and look to bail in 12 months.
I do not agree with the other comments focusing the 5K isn't a lot. First off the amount isn't the issue. If it's $500 that's still BS and should be brought up to HR. Also dont agree with the gaslighting that you shouldn't discuss salary with others which is how companies get away with these kind of inequities.
From what it sounds like, maybe the base salary couldn’t be negotiated, but other aspects of the overall compensation package like the signing bonus could be negotiated, this probably was not publicized.
As a fresh grad, 5k can be a lot, however over time that isn’t much in the grand scheme of life. Remember as a signing bonus this is a 1x payment and otherwise your getting the same salary, perhaps you can use this knowledge as leverage when performance reviews/ bonus time come around.
While things may seem unfair, id recommend staying with your current employer until you get 1-3 YOE, especially with a potential recession on the horizon.
You can escalate this if you want. At my first job, one guy received $5K less in base than all other new grads and raised it to his manager and HR and got it adjusted. Rare situation but possible to discuss since it’ll build resentment otherwise
That’s rare. If a new hire escalated their desire for a higher pay, the direct manager will say no. It won’t even go up to my level for approval, which is needed to get HR to act.
Something similar happened to me. Last year, a year after joining as a new grad, I was training a new grad in the class behind me and she told me her starting salary because she was afraid that she didn’t negotiate.. well her starting salary was higher than my salary at the time.. aka the person I was training who had never had a job before was making more than me who had over a year at the company.
5k like everyone said isn’t a lot. You take that and divide by 2080 and it’s 2.40 per hour. This will happen throughout your career. My best advice is don’t discuss salary and don’t compare yourself to others. Because people will excel at different rates and move around between companies and orgs and negotiate better or worse for themselves. The next time you make a move make sure you know what your worth is and try to negotiate a little better than the time before.
