Tell them you thought about it over the weekend and that you don’t feel comfortable not billing what you actually worked. Say you are excited to start the new brief and that you’d like a mutual commitment to communicate better going forward with more check-ins regarding hours.

That’s hot language. I have not stopped thinking about it. I think I’ve settled on: I will shave off five hours (of the 15 hour difference) as a gesture. (My AD shaved 7 of the 20 hours that differed from the other AD). I will start hunting for work immediately. I’m really only committed until Thanksgiving so I can suck it up until then. Thanks for your ideas/suggestions.

Always get paid. No agency is worth shaving hours for. If they lost that project you’re working on they’d cut your ass in a heartbeat.

That’s why I’m paid by the day? I’d probably begrudgingly do it and then not work there again.

Yes to that’s what a day rate is for. ⭐️

A CD should know better and protect the creative process and time it may take. Sure, it’s probably Accounts asking the CD to ask you this. Did they first ask you to reduce your rate? Now, after the work is done, they ask you to reduce your hours? You know your value; the other freelancer knows theirs. And clearly the agency know theirs, which mustn’t be much, because if they did themselves what they’re asking of you, they’ll eventually reduce the hours they’re in existence. Get paid for your time. Avoid the implication you’ve inflated hours. Bank the $2500. And let them screw someone else over.

@ACD3 I think you’re right. Everybody’s comments here really helped me so thanks for that. I just left the time sheets for them. Minus five hours, as a gesture. I don’t feel great about it, but if they cut me loose at least I know I made the effort. Oh, and I will be looking for work, just in case.

Stand your ground. Do not take the $2500 loss. Asking you to charge less by comparing you to another was done intentionally. It is a known manipulative trick to get your work for cheaper. As far as burning a bridge, if you handle yourself well it may not even burn a bridge at all, this could be testing to see how much of a pushover you would be to them. But also accept that this gig may end for standing your ground.

Would you do it and keep working there? Or would this $2500 loss inspire you to move on? The CD’s implication: my time sheet may not be accurate. Unofficial official implication of course, therefore involving HR would likely get me my money but sour my stance at the agency.

I'd be careful. Depends how much work you're getting. Certain agencies are my bread and butter and I don't want to jeopardize the relationship or give them a reason not to call me. One of these agencies in particular frowns upon any overtime, and I go into each assignment with that in mind. Another often implies that if our work moves forward, our gig will get extended, then dismisses us anyway due to costs/budgeting. Hence, if I was busy (instead of only working every other month on average) I'd love to tell them to go fuck themselves. But for now, I have to grin and bare it.

They have me starting on another brief on Monday. So now if I quit I’m leaving them in a lurch. That said, the CD avoided the hours discussion until 6pm on Friday.

@cw1 we don’t get to have a say in that

depends on the client.. if they’ve been good to me, I can shave off some time. But I would make it clear that a weekly invoice would be beneficial for them so that overages are caught sooner. Freelancers shouldnt have to worry about that..

took them 3 weeks? then I wouldn’t shave time. again, really depends how you want to treat that relationship. My clients push for weekly invoicing. It’ll solve that problem moving forward.

Are you possibly losing $2500 in pay? If so, HELL NAW.

@Freelanxe WK true. But I’m assuming the only reason they asked me to reduce hours in the first place was bc they were told to do so.

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave. Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute. If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?

Hi, looking for a transition to a Product Manager role from a Project/Program manager. Please let me know jf any leads.

I am sure this has been asked a million times before but have a Microsoft Program Manager interview coming up. Has anyone been in a position where they experienced a re-org where the VP you reported to left the firm, project was benched and you’re placed onto a team where everyone is the same race/ethnicity and they visibly do not want you? 3 months in and I was PIPed for “not performing my job duties” I’m entry level and the manager said he wasn’t interested in training anyone. He hired a senior analyst and had me train them and then fired me.

Recently started at a firm after clerking. I feel major imposter syndrome and have no confidence in the work I produce. It feels like everything I learned while clerking has faded and as though I have negative years of experience. Is this normal? I understand that nerves come with being a junior level associate but I truly feel no confidence in my work product. Any advice or thoughts?
