Fresh Junior lateral and a colleague from past firm (different practice area) asked if I could take a pro Bono case because he trusts me with it. It would be completely creditable under my firm’s policy, but would it look weird to ask for pro Bono credit in my first few weeks post lateral?

Just worried it would look like I’m not prioritizing work that actually earns the firm money. Idk maybe I’m overthinking it. Thoughts? TIA!

1) it is creditable bc your firm cares about pro bono.
2) your firm might require you to get a partner or senior associate on the matter and it could provide an opportunity to work with someone you’d like to.

Start the race like you intend to run it. If doing pro bono work is important to you, then you should do some pro bono work.

This.

It’s a no. You need to integrate into your new firm and practice group right now.

like

Agreed. Only exception would be if the project somehow serves or integrates with the new Firm and so you would be bringing them an opportunity

My supervisor gave me 8hours of AWOL because I couldn't show up one day because I was under anxiety. I have gave him letters from psychiatrist, psychologist that I'm passing through this. If I move to another job later on (private or federal) this 8 hours of AWOL will show up?

Let’s call out the scam now: return to the office policies are asking for more of your time for the exact same pay. Record billables over the year and a half have shown that associates are indefinitely more efficient working at home. If you want me to come to the office, lower your billable expectation or pay me more. Simple economics. We have leverage, let’s exert it here.

“Supra” has the word “up” in it. As in: see up! Boom. Done. You’re welcome.
