One perk of WFH is I can cry without having to hide in a bathroom. Maybe I’m PMSing but just feeling really unwanted rn. Don’t have friends or work colleagues that seem to care about/like me. Like is there something genetically about a person that can make them unlikeable? I just don’t understand what’s wrong with me as a person. I have an SO and family that love me very much but I need the external validation and I’ve never had that. Just gonna be in my feelings the rest of today.

Moved to a non hub city during the pandemic (Charleston, SC). Anyone seeing difficulties landing new positions in the market because they aren’t near a hub? I’m willing to travel for client work so I didn’t think it would be an issue, but some companies are still hesitant despite being largely virtual.
I currently work at Wells Fargo earning a yearly salary of 110,000 with 15% yearly bonus but got an offer to join Microsoft for 100,000 with 20% yearly bonus, 5k sign in, and 20% stocks. Hypothetical that I'm trying to quantify for myself. Say I make $100k and feel I can comfortably spend $2k on rent. Assume for arguments sake, I'm happy at this level with savings, social life, etc. I get a raise to $120k. What can I now afford in rent? A) $2.4k. I got a 20% raise, so I can spend 20% more in rent. B) $3.6k. I got a $20k raise, so I can spend $1.6k (rounded) more in rent. C) Somewhere in the middle Traditional thinking tells me A is correct, but it seems conservative.
I am in sixth year at a top firm in Toronto. I’m considering lateraling to another firm that does very similar work to what I’m currently doing, essentially because I strongly dislike the culture at my current firm. If you have lateraled for a culture-related issue, what do you wish you had asked before signing? Do you think there is a way to truly suss out culture before working somewhere? I have several law school classmates at this new firm so will obv ask them.
