Say that you have been effectively communicating the info to the client and relevant parties and in the future (starting now) you will send out the reports. Set a calendar reminder if you have to

Tell your ED you’ve found other methods of communication that work best for your client, but you maintain the status reports for your reference to have everything you’ve covered off on during the week in one place. Mention you can start sending them to the client if the ED prefers that approach.
