I've been given the same advice as a man. I took it. Nobody wants to interact with a moody asshole, male or female.
Hey, women, stop making every piece of constructive feedback into sexist criticism!
I'd be so excited if a woman came up to me out of the blue and told me she'd like to see me smile more. I'd friggin love it. VML, I hope I work with you.
OK. Stop trying to get a promotion to a position that puts you in front of the client.
Yup. Again, I've had to sit down with grown ass adults and explain why sighing heavily and scowling isn't cool in client meetings. And they've argued back! Amazing.
Coaching / feedback is a gift. Stop being so defensive and listen.
Telling a female to smile more is sexist. I have never heard anyone give that advice to a man. Hey, men, stop telling females to smile more!
Have you been "greeted" by a stone faced cashier or other customer service person who barely speaks up? How did you like it?
Tell you what. Starting tomorrow I'm going to tell every man I see at work to smile more. I'll let you know how that goes.
☝️️ yeah. We did that thread before. Reality is people need to be receptive to feedback.
Sigh... We already had the longest thread ever about this. No, it's not sexist to tell customer service positions to smile and be friendly to customers!
If you said you gotta smile to dudes more to get a promotion, that's sexist. If you say to a daily client facing position to speak up and be friendly(smile), that's part of your doing your job well
This is why we can't have women in the work place, I guess. Not allowed to give feedback.
You know what's the worst about this thread? It didn't make OP smile at all even once.
Grow up. Your presence matters in client services. Speak up, act positive. You don't know much about the business, you're basically entry level. I had to coach a girl who worked for me to stop speaking such a squeaky tentative voice on phone calls. Maybe it's not fair but clients and colleagues judge you on superficial things sometimes. If you don't want to deal, don't do this job.
She's grumpy because nobody listens to her.
Don't gang up on her though. OP, I hope you get the point here. Try applying the feedback and see if it makes a difference.
No @CD1, that's why you can't have shrinking violets on the workplace (men or women).
Wonder what's making OP so grumpy?
Totally, VML. Let us know how it goes.
Smiling is proven to benefit your long term health and extend your life. So..fake it so you can make it? Don't do it for the man, do it for your health.
