Things change, paint a full picture so they can make an informed decision. E.g. encourage them to apply to STEM programs and enroll in schools that have good job placements for int’l students.

Some people have had all positive experiences while some have had negative. Give them the plus and minuses, they may decide to leave after getting their degree.
I don’t want to sound like a cynical guy here especially since they seem genuinely excited about the prospect.
I also recognise all the great parts of the US as a country and really great opportunities it offers including the $$$ / lifestyle we have over here.
But the last few weeks (and 2020 in general) have been really tiring with the visa lottery and current covid situation in india is making me feel helpless / powerless....
Almost like I have a pair of golden handcuffs.
Speak consultant about the benefits with the disclaimer about the visa stuff in whatever local language y’all use - I’ve noticed that that conveys the right amount of emotion for this topic lol. I’d summarize for them as “this is something you should try to pursue but be mentally prepared to show a lot of resilience. Don’t expect a cakewalk. “
I don’t think i have the skills to speak consultant in Hindi lol. But the point about resilience is good.
I’ve been direct with friends who ask me about this. Come here, make a ton of money, but it’s impossible to get a green card. If you want to emigrate, go study in Europe/Canada.
A lot of friends are surprised/in disbelief when I tell them about the 20-120+ year Green Card backlog.

I think you should. I’ve been very clear to all my friends who’ve asked me.
Well if they are good friends with you, paint a full picture..hard for someone to grasp the full toll the visa stuff has on one’s mental health without experiencing it..suggest alternatives too...some May think short term get quick bucks, others long term, give them the best advice you can,it’s upto them..
Yes why wouldn’t you? They should have all the right information so they can make a good decision.
