From industry to big 4?
Would you take a pay cut and go to pwc as a 1st year senior in risk assurance?
I make 95-98K and work great hours at a great company. Would be getting a pay cut if I join pwc

Unless you really want the chance to work on multiple clients, don't do it. You'll be going backwards and likely just doing outsourced SOX work.

Don't do it! It is going to set you back in your career and you'll get more diverse experience in your company.

Yes, you'll see more different companies at PWC, but you'll be pigeonholed into a specialty and do the same work over and over again. In industry IA, you have a better chance of broader exposure for the perspective of the type of work you could do.

like

Depends on what your career goals are. You'll get experience in other companies and industries

like

You don’t say how much of a cut, but 90s are usually for a 3rd year senior at the firm. How much do you value that b4 experience?

like

Don’t do it. Even if you enjoy SOX, you can apply for another industry position for more $$$

I would say you’re good at where you currently are. I would only make the move to big 4 for a manager / senior manager level position. Maybe the current timing isn’t the best for you to make the move. I would stick it out at the company where you are and maybe try to look for more diversified work and responsibilities in IA and re-examine your standing in a year (or maybe even 2). Sometimes things take longer before we get that “boom” in our career development.

I moved from industry to PA. Everyone said "don't do it!" But it was in line with my goals to get experience as a consultant, and increase my industry experience. It's been great.

like

I did it. Within my company I had topped out and couldn’t grow. I joined big4 to relaunch my career

Thanks guys, I didn’t mention how much then pay cut is, because the are still working on finalizing the offer. HR mislead me before interviewing about compensation. (I thought that I’ll be getting more than what I make now initially). I currently work at a private company which is one of the reasons why I would like to move to a big 4 - to get public company and six experience and improve my project management skills. Also, I currently can’t make it to manager because I don’t have enough supervisory experience.
Thanks for your replies, my first message was short because there was a limit on the number of characters I was able to write! Maybe because I’m a newbie on this app?!

Like Manager 1 stated, it really depends what your goals are. I left industry and took a pay cut to join the firm. But I had the mentality of “doing your time” at the big 4 so I can boost my career in general. Been here for 5 years now. If you want that experience that comes from the firm and you want to make manager and above, jump now and you’ll reap what you sow later in life. If you don’t care about titles, you’ll be fine where you’re at

I am currently a manager. Accepted a position back in patient care for more money and a better schedule. Spoke to my RVP today who raved about my performance and was looking for feedback for the next manager. I do not treat patients and he was interested in how to best prep the next “non-clinical” manager as others in the region were fired or underperformed. I am wrong to be insulted that he did not offer a wage increase? Should I negotiate or run as I have been feeling undervalued?

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

For relocation bonuses:

Company told me they pay $2500 at time of relocation. It’s not needed now but likely will be in July.

However, it’s not stated in the offer. Do I ask them to revise the offer to include that in writing, or do I just wait till they ask me to relocate and negotiate the bonus to a higher amount then?
