Would be great to have more info about your situation, but rolling to an IRA could work well. First, no income tax/penalty; second, in an IRA you have the universe to choose from (vs. pre-defined galaxy of a 457B, 401K). Fees could be lower in an IRA (usually none), as some 457B providers have account maintenance fees.

No worries about not sharing stuff before—more of a caveat regarding an incomplete picture makes for incomplete advice. If you’re in govt (guessing given pension; I’m a govt alum myself) or non-profit, there could ways to reduce your interest rate and loan term. Happy to chat more, if you’d like.

Any DIYers in here? Just thrifted 2 bar stools which I suspect are painted with latex paint bc it feels rubbery and feels like it comes off easy. Looks like it’s only one layer of paint and it’s bare wood underneath. Can I just scrape/sand off this paint or do I need to go buy some chemicals to strip the paint? Ive been doing some googling and everyone is taking like 5 different steps and 24hrs for stuff to set in just to remove the paint, is all that really necessary?

Ladies who are in biglaw - need your advice! My fiance keeps dismissing my thoughts of leaving biglaw and going inhouse. She says to stay in biglaw even if im not happy because nobody is happy from their job and that the “smart” thing to do is just ride it out for as long as I can because when one is inhouse, you’re a cost center and there’s no job security/stability. Do you agree with her?
