From your standpoint, is ageism something that's being recognized in diversity and inclusion efforts? For my organization I would say we're only addressing this it this year (been here 3).

Not at all. If anything my company still has several seriously ageist policies that prevent or at least limit the opportunities for older people.

Age is a protected class but I never see it included.

Is is unique as all of the other protected classes are universal, such as race, national origin, sexual or gender identity, etc.

Age is just protected for people over 40 which means it’s comply legal for a company to say something stupid like “young people have no work ethic so we won’t ever hire them at anything above entry level roles” meanwhile old people think the true discrimination is when the company wants to a college graduate a third of what they’d need to pay a 50 year old, making the old person the true victim.

Maybe this was an issue in 1975 but in 2023 including age just as “over 40” is ridiculous and is a protection for the cohort with the largest share of institutional power.

Hey, I graduated UChicago and took a finance analyst position. However, I am looking to switch into management consulting because of a couple factors I have realized matter more to me than I realized: 1. Team and Collaborative problem-solving, 2. Would appreciate any likes I could dm or any comments with firms I should look into that could be a good fit and hire off-cycle or for January 2023!

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

Help! I'm a Sped teacher (ELA inclusion) that comes home to a High Functioning Autistic 9 yr old with ADHD and a slew of sensory issues that has sworn off soap 🤢. I've made visual check list for bathroom processes, bought timers, tried different bars and body washeds with net sponges, towels and even invested in a pricey showerhead with multiple settings. His set of needs are out of my wheel house. I need suggestions before I just pack up and move out *sarcasm but at the end of my rope*.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great!
