What kind of job are you looking for?

Brand manager. Job description matches what I'm doing now at a start up. I mean I'm probably doing the work of many more people at the cpg

I’ve had the same experience when interviewing for some CPGs. So frustrating. With the one I eventually did (briefly) work for, they seemed to like my talking points about influencers, which I can imagine are a big part of many CPG marketing/PR campaigns.

Were you a consultant or full time?

That opportunity was full time.

Look into the CEOs at JAB-owned brands, and a former JAB partner. Many have CPG backgrounds or it is at least part of their current businesses. You might need to dig deeper than a Google search but I can say from first-hand experience they think big, move fast, and execute.

Ok I get it, that's why I am trying to get a job at a traditional CPG. But here's another related question. For those of you who have worked at agency side and at a large CPG, what are the different skills that are most important in each environment?

Patience. The agency side doesn’t see half of the waffling and bureaucracy/politics going on behind the scenes, so there is wariness hiring someone with all agency exp knowing they like to move fast and make big changes, vs a corporate mindset of incremental change leading towards bigger, planned outcomes down the road. So many people come in-house to feel like they are spinning their wheels and leave before they can see change happen. That hurts both sides as the work probably won’t happen without them and they feel like they wasted months/years with little to show for it.
