When my child was younger, I paid the nanny weekly and for Christmas, I would give her an extra weeks pay. That was her bonus and Christmas gift all in one.

Same, but usually round up to a whole number

like

We do 1k for Christmas, 1 k for birthday

like

Last year I gave her a week off paid, this year (since the girls are starting school) I’m going to give her $1000 I think. She’s been a lifeline for me and I’m so sad about her not being with the kids all the time anymore.

2 weeks’ pay

like

Extra week pay and a gift of about $100 value.

Thank you all , this is super helpful! Is this on top of other benefits that you provide? Like we gave her 10 federal holidays, 5 paid vacation and 5 sick days this first year.

like

We do 10 holidays, 10 PTO days and 5 sick days. If she doesn’t use the sick days she can cash out.

like

Other benefits we do:
2 weeks vacation
6 federal holidays
5 personal days (we call them personal days as I’m more likely to get advance notice than if we lock nanny into spontaneous “sick” days).
Unlimited metro card.

Other tax-efficient benefits you can give are healthcare reimbursement (QSEHRA) and tuition reimbursement. It means you can pay them up to the reimbursement limit and they don’t pay any income tax on that amount.

like

One more thing

I did 2-3 sick days but let them rollover so they never felt that use it or use it thing.

I wish I had a nanny

like

Do the math and give a bonus commensurate with yours. I.e. if Nanny usually gets 15% of your normal take-home pay, give them 15% of your bonus.

Paid time off during holidays seems like an appropriate gift, and you could take that out of their "bonus" if necessary.

like

IMO, I'm already paying them very well and providing benefits, paid time off, etc. As a single parent, while I may be in a higher income bracket, a bonus of that size when I'm already paying far above average isn't something I can "afford". I give an extra 2 weeks pay as their bonus.

When I was making 75k, I wouldn't expect my employer to give me that type of bonus either.

2 weeks pay bonus; gift $200-$400. She also gets about a week and a half off because we are off/traveling.

like

1 weeks pay for Christmas bonus

like

2 weeks pay

like

Nanny bonus expectation is widely one week oay. My first year I had no idea ans it seemed like so much. Second year I realized it’s just the cost of doing business

like

Two weeks bonus on New Year’s Day (so three weeks pay that week).

Hi all! I work at a nonprofit and am looking to leave the organization. As I browse available positions in my area, I’m realizing there is a LOT of crossover between my current org and others, for example shared board members, folks who are on our board and employed at one of the institutions I’m interested in, etc.. Is there a way to say “my current org doesn’t know I’m looking, so please treat my interest with discretion” that doesn’t raise red flags? Thanks!

Rental property managers in ALX

Hi! I am preparing to rent out my condo in Alexandria (off edsall road) in the spring. Anyone have any tips for first time landlords? I’m planning to work with a rental mgmt company that has 3 properties in my complex. They’ll charge 1 month rent for the marketing and 7.9% mgmt fee. I am moving to a lower COLA and don’t mind paying for the mgmt, but I haven’t found a good cash flow calculator to forecast taxes, etc. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks.

I’ve had an offer to join CapGemini Invent at Senior Consultant level. I have 4 years in industry experience and total current package £65k (base+car allowance+bonus) compared to £67k (base+bonus) offer from cap. (The main difference is bonus). They are quoting two years for me to reach Managing Consultant level. Really keen to get exposure to other industries but unsure how competitive the offer is. Thoughts?

You want to talk about demoralizing— try looking at current jobs for entry level data positions. How can you even compete with this number of applicants? It’s both nationwide and for in person jobs as well from what I’ve seen.

Why do people in m&a tax make so much more than regular / international? Is the work that much harder / more challenging? It seems like they mostly just coordinate with other teams. Basically like jack of all trades but master of none?

Part of me thinks they can charge higher fees because they’re on a transaction and seen less as a “cost” center. On the sell side they’re helping generate revenue and on the buy side they’re doing the same, although not immediately
