FTM in suburbs here trying to decide on a car seat/stroller system. Probably leaning towards grace, chicco, or britax travel systems for safety and cost reasons. Would you recommend an infant car seat? And if so, which travel system would you recommend?

We have UPPAbaby. Regardless of what brand you go with, infant seat is SO helpful, esp if you live in a cold climate. You can secure/bundle baby in car seat and then walk outside to the car instead of walking outside with an infant and then trying to maneuver them into a cold car seat in a cold car. When they’re in the infant car seat, you can carry the car seat, your diaper bag, your coffee, keys, etc easily. If you are holding baby on their own, it’s exceedingly more difficult. Plus if you have a travel system, baby can stay in the car seat while you push them around target (pre covid life). You need 1 car seat + extra bases for other caregivers (dad, grandma) versus everyone having their own car seat. Some infant seats can also be installed with a seatbelt, which removes the need for extra bases.

Yeah, I think we switched my daughter around 12 months. But, there’s a huge difference between what their size is as a newborn and a 6 month old, 9 month old and 12 month old. When they are a floppy newborn, the extra protection of the newborn car seat is hugely helpful in transporting them in and out of the car.

I love chicco. We had the carrier/stroller system. Used them for toddler and now booster seats.

The keyfit 30 seat and base with the Viaro Stroller. We got two bases (one for each car) so we could just use the seat interchangeably.

As he got too big (he's three years old and a size 6), we went to the Nextfit iX. Now we are at the MyFit.

I recommend going to the store and carrying the car seats around. I had planned to go with Britax before realizing it was too heavy for me to comfortably carry. I ended up getting a maxi cosi car seat and mockingbird stroller. I picked the maxi cosi because it has a removable machine washable cover. In the future, I would probably do the chicco car seat because the maxi cosi was a pain to install and chicco is supposed to be very easy.

It definitely it very easy. Loved it.

We have a britax and love it! The infant seat is a bit heavier than some others, but we felt the safety features made up for it. It was super easy to install in our cars and the one-click in/out of the britax stroller was perfect.

One thing I’ll note is that if there’s any reason you think you’re having a large baby, or if you live in a mild climate, you might want to rethink the infant car seat. My 99th+ percentile baby was out of his at 5 months. Next baby I’ll probably do a convertible from birth.

D1, great that it worked for you 👍🏻 for me personally there was no additional utility provided by an infant-only car seat and I wished we had used a convertible from the start as he greatly prefers the convertible. At 10 months we’re well beyond the height limit and nearly at the weight limit for our infant seat (32”/32lbs).

I went with Uppababy

I went with Graco travel system and it has worked great. Uppa baby is so overpriced in my opinion

We just bought a mockingbird and it feels like the uppababy we tried in the store but was less than half the price. We’re impressed with it even thought the baby hasn’t arrived yet.
