I don't understand how anyone can get excited for this job. We're doing glorified government compliance work that we put our blood, sweat, and tears into a file that no one (fucking no one!) outside of the firm and maybe PCAOB will ever see much less give a fuck about.

Same. After 2 months of job searching still can't find anything that would suck less than my current job

Different office, different industry, CMAAS??? You sure you looked everywhere?
CMAAS too much travel and long hours depending on a project, industry doesn't provide for flexibility and could be boring and I can't think of a hobby that pays well either

Have you considered Advisory/Consulting shops? There's a bunch of companies that provide accounting related consulting. Things like technical accounting/IPO readiness/SOX/etc... How many years do you have in public OP? If you're seeing a lack of opportunities it could be that you need to move to a larger market or wait it out until you've got more years under your belt.
Maybe you are looking for fulfillment in the wrong place? Sometimes pumping up your none work life is the answer, just a thought... Good luck
