I love my job but Im underpaid despite being here 10 years. I just found out they are hiring new hires higher than me and Im the one training them.
I decided to look online and found a recruiter offering a similar job. I have an interview tomorrow and the range is 20-30k above what I make.
1. How do i position this to my boss about matching the offer
2. If the new company says its an avg of 140-150k total comp, what should my number be to get me to leave? Would 200k be insulting?
You’re a writer. Craft a well thought-out, discernible sentence and perhaps you’ll get an answer to your question.
You pay for LinkedIn?
30k?! You definitely getting audited
At any rate, would those things together even go over the standard deduction?
@ Account Director 1 they extended it until today, due technical problems
File an extension. Get an accountant.
So taxes? You can try to deduct those things but most accountants advise against it for a very simple reason — the IRS knows it’s bs. They also went on a hiring tear a couple of years ago swelling their ranks of auditors. This wasn’t to go after the 1% but to audit and fine those in the middle-class who try to game the system and are easily caught and fined due to a lack of financial resources to fight back. A few friends of mine were caught once. You can try though
Not such a good strategy. That’s how you get audited. You need to prove that all those items are specifically for work purposes and are not used for pleasure. And you can only deduct medical expenses over 7.5% of your gross income. I suppose you might get lucky because the IRS is so underfunded.
I'm thinking you just missed the deadline.
SCW2 never been audited in 20yrs. That’s an avg refund for self employed VP and above peeps.
Ya, I realized you probably make way more than I do after I said that.
@client lead 1 - self-employed and freelance are able to be much more liberal with their write-offs.
You can try but none of those are really allowable deductions.

Taxes are not THAT complicated.
Clothes, movies, museums, some transportation, Spotify
^ I see. Thank you!
A good accountant that specializes in entertainment/creative industry can get you those deductions and more. I avg a 30k refund.
Everything but medical and mta
Although I got mta taken out of my paycheck so it wouldn’t be taxed
So what else can be deducted, folks?
Movies, concerts, magazines, museums. Anything that you can count as “culturally relevant” as “your job requires one to be aware of pop culture trends.” Also your tv subscriptions help you “stay up to date with broadcast commercial trends.” And your portfolio site
