Federal, Government, and Public Sector

Future employer wants to begin eqip and background check but panicking that current employer will be notified. Have not given my notice and won’t be for awhile. Start date is a few months out.

I don’t think they would notify your current employer. You can relax. By the time they do (if they do) you would have already told them anyways. Also if you’re leaving, what does it matter?

It’s all outsourced now, so very little chance your current firm would even know

That process takes months anyway.

I have friends who’ve been through this. So as long as your current employer doesn’t put you in for a clearance with the same government agency, you’re fine. If they attempt to do so, it will cause an error in the respective system (as you can’t be pipelined for a single agency by multiple sponsors). Also, if you’re in the federal consulting space, it’s not that unusual to express interest in moving to the government — hell, there’s even a name for it, “Reverse Badge Flipping”. I think you’re fine.

I’ve been sick lately and think much of it is to do with my mental mind being afraid and in fear mode of me getting xyz sickness.

Fish: I applied for a job and got interest back with a salary requirement ask. I gave it and haven’t heard back. Fear I priced myself out. It’s been two weeks. Should I respond? Thanks in advance.

I actually really dislike it when recruits tell me they're only applying for MBB. It sounds like they think they're too good for any other firm.

As a leader, I try to use what power and influence I have to make change. Yesterday, on a holding co leadership call when trying to get a Fortune 15 company to meaningfully act. I was faced with 4 white, 50+ y/o men on a zoom screen telling me they were “doing enough.” Ignoring statistics, the research they provided, let alone the moral argument. If I am this exhausted, frustrated, and drained in this moment, I can only imagine this is a sliver of what others feel every day.

I was just offered a position with a non-profit organization. It’ll be a great transition from my current fellowship, and I’m super excited about the offer. Now here’s the catch, I haven’t accepted yet, but I am also applying for clerkship with a federal judge. If offered the judicial clerkship, I’d want to happily and eagerly accept. What is the professional way to accept the current offer and possibly leave if offered the clerkship? If it helps, this will be my second post-graduate position.

New to the form and the whole tax return process. Normally if my base location is in one state and my client location is in another, do I need to file tax returns for both states or just one?

The youngest baby boomers are either 54 or 55. In about 5 years all of them will be out. Does feel like there would be a dramatic change in our culture at the big four/Consulting and fortune 500?

Anyone know how long firms typically give you to decide on offers? Currently interviewing for my first job not through campus recruiting and trying to optimize my interview scheduling

How do I tread water in consulting. On a project way too technical and have decided this industry is not for me - at least at this capacity. How do I just survive. I’m not going for a promotion just trying not to quit within less than a year lol

Starting at Deloitte in September, and I may catch some slack for this question, but I feel like I learned almost nothing in school. I mean I know the basics of accounting, but don’t feel how I thought I would after obtaining a bachelor’s. So my question: how much technical accounting knowledge did you have before starting? Do you learn as you go in this career or am I already behind?

If your competitor reached out to ask “how do you sell against us” would you tell them? They should already know... or at least have an idea.
