Federal, Government, and Public Sector

Future employer wants to begin eqip and background check but panicking that current employer will be notified. Have not given my notice and won’t be for awhile. Start date is a few months out.

I don’t think they would notify your current employer. You can relax. By the time they do (if they do) you would have already told them anyways. Also if you’re leaving, what does it matter?

It’s all outsourced now, so very little chance your current firm would even know

That process takes months anyway.

I have friends who’ve been through this. So as long as your current employer doesn’t put you in for a clearance with the same government agency, you’re fine. If they attempt to do so, it will cause an error in the respective system (as you can’t be pipelined for a single agency by multiple sponsors). Also, if you’re in the federal consulting space, it’s not that unusual to express interest in moving to the government — hell, there’s even a name for it, “Reverse Badge Flipping”. I think you’re fine.
