FWA how is % calculated? What is the total hrs used?

When I was on an FWA, I worked 80% year round (so, 80% of 45 or 80% of 55, whatever the current expectation was). It is completely flexible. No one ever asked about my total hours for the year. You would also only charge 80% (for example) to holiday and sick leave. As mentioned, I increased my hours during busy season (felt more supportive of team to do so), but I’ve seen people go on an FWA and work straight 40 hours year round. (Would not advise this as it essentially ends up feeling like you work FT for less pay). Also discovered if FWA was not enough of a reduction, not enough work would be taken off, making FWA feel stressful. Hope this helps!

80% is probably enough of a reduction to have work reduced as well. Even better at 70% or 75%. Worth noting that less than 50% would mean no benefits. As far as joining on an FWA, my guess is easier now than ever before, as it seems everyone is desperate for help! I wouldn’t be afraid to ask.

How many weeks per year at 55?

Did you negotiate billable hours or actual hours?

I returned to firm on FWA- I actually think this is easier than starting full time and reducing as your client load starts based on your % and you don’t have to try to cut clients/workload to accommodate. I tried doing low hours in summer but my workload was high in summer so that didn’t work. After first year just went by my percentage of full time expectations to determine hours to work.

What % did you settle on? Do you think starting 40 hrs year round is realistic to maintain?

My brain is not working, if I make 90k and the 401k match is "25% of the first 6% of annual comp" that means they will match $1,395 if I contribute $5,580 a year.....correct?
