FYI: the healthcare insurance industry + supporting industries employs millions of Americans. Don't be one of those uninformed that want to demolish it completely

Without taking it to the extreme of demolishing it, you saying we shouldn't try to lower the costs for consumers?

like

How is it that after undergoing "healthcare reform" we have the cases of Turing Pharma and epiPens for $600. It's still broken, and forcing more people into the pool didn't fix it.

like

I don't want to demolish it but it certainly shouldn't take all those millions of people to run it. It is way too inefficient and costly and as a consumer I want to see costs go down by streamlining and cutting the inefficiencies

No one wants to demolish the industry. They want to demolish the government overreach into the industry. Duh.

No. I want the gov to reach entirely into it. It would be sooo much cheaper with a one payer system. No profits to be made from it. Less administrative processes

So much cheaper. And so much shittier.

Just gotta tell someone and it’s totally gauche to tell anyone I know. My husband and I just hit a million dollars net worth—well, it was probably a few days ago but we just updated the spreadsheet with his 401k balance. AHHHHHH! I had planned to celebrate the occasion with a fancy restaurant dinner but we’re not going out during the pandemic. I’ll have to dig some steaks out of the freezer!

My 401k is currently maxed out, I hear I should max out Roth IRA, but looking online, looks like you need to make less than 122k- I make more than that. What else can I contribute to?

Interesting statistic I just saw: Today 50% of women aged 30 do not currently have children. This is the highest it’s been since they began keeping records of it. 🤯

I am lateraling. My start date is Sept. 7. I was planning on giving my current firm notice on Aug. 2 so my last day would be Aug. 13 and I would have a few weeks off before starting the new gig. Was just perusing the employee handbook of my current firm and found that the separation policy requires at least 4 weeks’ notice. I’ve never heard of this before, and I’m at a loss as to what I should do. I don’t want to lose the time off but don’t want to lose benefits for Aug. either.

Can you be a socialist/antifascist and a work in biglaw? I am a biglaw associate, currently working in a practice area where I feel my work benefits society as a whole and not mainly our clients at the expense of others. I am also a socialist and care deeply about issues like systemic racism, climate change and the huge differences in income and wealth in this country. People with an income like me and partners in particular should be taxed way more. Any other biglaw folks who feel the same?

Hi lovely fishes! Need your advice on how much house to buy? First time home buyers so nervous. Both of us are 34, married no kids yet. Make combined $550k and live in a no income tax state. We have $350k in retirement accounts. Maxing out 401k, Roths, a vanguard brokerage account plus $50k emergency cash. Student loan $150k. Everything we like is priced $1 to $1.3m. Husband loves vanguard index funds, thinks better to invest there instead of buying an expensive home. appreciate your advice.

This may be a hot take - but as a younger person, working with parents of small kids (especially new parents) is so frustrating. I frequently find myself responsible for picking up the slack due to their family commitments - it’s also somehow completely socially acceptable for kids to barge into zoom meetings screaming. I wouldn’t find it nearly as bothersome if I felt like leadership and parent colleagues took my issues and non work commitments seriously in addition to that of parents and kids
