There's national firms like RSM! All the same hours and work but a quarter of the resources!
In PA? Most others aren’t worth it in my experience.

It really just depends on what someone’s looking to get out of PA
Totally agree. Name is important but it comes with a lot of baggage. The trade off makes it even. The universe is aligned
If you're going to go for PA Kool aid, at least pay for name brand Kool aid.
Yeah as someone who as worked at a 2nd tier firm and big 4, yes - you may start at a higher salary but by senior years big 4 pays more.
Rising Star
I don’t have big4 experience and I’m a VP of Actg for a large publicly traded company with 10k employees. I make $190k plus 24% bonus plus 10% equity working 40 hrs per week. Worked in audit and left as SM. It’s all about how you sell yourself. Most job postings will say big4 preferred but it’s only a slight advantage.
For sure. Intelligence and how well you interview matters much more than having big 4 on your resume. And this is someone who was also at big 4. Looking to eventually become a tax director of large international law firm for huge money
Too late I’m already here
Meh - there’s a lot of positives to big firm, lots of subject matter specialists and infrastructure. I don’t need to know everything but I need to be able to put my clients in contact with someone who snows the answer. That might not be there in a smaller firm.
I don’t buy the big 4 pigeon hole arguement — seems to be something midtiers lush. I’ve worked on tons of different projects/engagements and handled different aspects each time. Really don’t think the pigeonhole thing is true and is just pushed by midtier recruiters
Haven’t experienced other big 4 but I feel like you are pretty much free to do or sell whatever you want that may be outside your pigeon hole. I think that is how you can end up getting that broad experience. Just go get it and don’t wait for stuff to come / happen to you.
