I lost 30lbs last year. The only change was that I stopped drinking alcohol. If you do drink then that would make a difference.
Yes! I’ve lost eight pounds in the past couple months just by cutting WAY back on drinking. Sort of embarrassed by how shocking this was to me
Eating healthy is key! Force yourself to eat healthy on the road - salads and protein, minimize carbs, sugar and dairy.
Weight watchers may help. I did it at 12 yo with my mom (she lost 40, i lost 20) and on and off still do it 15 years later. But I think tracking is key which you may do via any app
I love 💚! So happy they are offering choices now! Freestyle (and myself) did me in!
Please don't hate yourself! I understand though what you are feeling - I have a mirror right outside my shower. Not always a pretty sight!
I am working in "sprints" - once i get down ten lbs, I'm going to feel great and celebrate and then focus on the next 5 lbs. My ideal weight is 135, I don't know if I'm ever going to see that again on the scale, but really excited to see 149 - which I should be 4 Fridays from now.
One thing, that's not for everyone, is I am taking Wellbutrin to quit smoking. I took it last year and it worked for me and I also lost 10 lbs (gained it back slowly when I let work take over my workouts again). Reason I mention it is that for me, it also reduced my food cravings and also desire to drink - and feel better. If your not a current smoker, it's also labeled for SAD. Might be worth a chat with the doctor if you think at least some of the weight gain is from emotional eating or stress.
The other thing I just started is Alli - again not for everyone. But you can buy over the counter on Amazon. It requires a low fat diet when you take it, as it works by blocking fat. If you eat crap food while you take it, shitting your pants could be the side effect. So that is also an effective craving control haha. I'm not sure how long I'll do low fat, I did low carb (well cut out bread) last year. I think I'd like to pick cheese over bread.
Of course diet is key - eating real food (I picked up salads and soups from the local grocery store when I traveled) and tracking what I eat. Working out about 40 minutes a day using videos from fitness blender (videos free, they have workout plans for avg of 15$.) I was running last year and saw faster results but don't feel like starting again right now.
Hope this helps or gives you some ideas. Treat yourself at least as good as a client and consultant the shit out of a short term and long term plan!
Aaah, sprints!! That is a good application! That makes a lot of sense to me— thanks for the tip!
Drink more water, keeps you fuller and it's also good for your digestion etc! We often don't pay attention, maybe set a goal of X water bottles a day, if you're travelling.
Fasting and irregular eating is not for everyone. It may cause you to overcompensate and binge at the next meal. I rather eat regularly but more controller each time.
Try to eat protein with every meal. Order just a main, skipping starter and dessert when eating out or room service.
Same here! I just signed up for Noom after seeing people comment about it on posts. I just completed my profile on the app, I like their approach. It’s a 2 week trial then $99 for 2 months. It’s a type of nutrition coaching and group support, cheaper than a nutritionist so I’m giving it a try. Wish me luck!
Love the outpour of support and tips. I think I may give weight watchers a try. It’s really hard to from 118 to almost 150. I feel like I don’t recognize myself anymore but feel increasingly motivated.
I had lost ten pounds prior to my wedding through intermittent fasting or 48 hour water fasts for a few weeks but that weight I gained back slowly over time.
Eat smaller portions and eat it more slowly! Eating healthy is super important but can also sometimes feel like a burden. I say you don’t have to skip your favorites, but take more time to savor it and don’t finish everything
Join Orangetheory!
Agree I really enjoyed Orangetheory! Might rejoin.
I feel you! I put on 20lbs a few years ago and it was miserable. I lost the weight over about 5 months and have been pretty consistent at my “normal” weight for the last 5 years. I hired a trainer who told me, I think quite accurately, that weight loss is 85% diet, 15% exercise. I would start by logging what you eat in an app like MyFitnessPal. For me portion control was key, as well as cutting way back on alcohol. The really important part is to make sure you’re making a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet. Diets only last so long, whereas a commitment to a healthier lifestyle with flexibility and room for splurges will be sustainable.
What I tell to myself is that eating healthy is like work you don’t want to do it but you have to, you have to be persistent and you can not slack because the expectation is very high at work. You never question waking up to go to work, so you shouldn’t for the gym either.
I stopped drinking any sweetened beverages and dropped 5 pounds with no other effort. Technically alcohol breaks down into sugar, if I could stop that altogether I’d prob be down another solid 10lbs.
I feel you! On the same journey now. Successfully got down 20 pounds a few years ago by not drinking, replacing snacks with gum and walks, and sleeping more. You can do it!
Eat healthy and smaller portions, drink lots of water, watch out what you snack on, workout regularly
