Whoop is amazing for tracking lots of different things and showing visualisations of data over time. I love it. However the main difference is that the whoop doesn’t have a screen. If you want to use it as a watch then it’s not for you.
As others have replied, it depends on what you are trying to track as they are for two different use cases. Also keep in mind, that whoop is a
Membership service (you’re not buying the hardware), unlike Garmin in which you are buying the watch.
For that reason I’ve never messed with whoop. You sign up for monthly payments in perpetuity. Good business model but Garmin is better for customers.
Similar situation as you and just got a Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and freaking love it. Great battery life, workout settings and all the bells and whistles. Really good upgrade from the top tier FitBits

Ditto. Just bought the same model few weeks back.
Garmin is more versatile, can use it to track different sports, if you happen to golf it’s great for that too. And it’s just a regular watch too if you’re not using it for the fancy stuff

Garmin: better for tracking in workout activity. what was your HR during the activity ?
Whoop: better for tracking recovery and total workout load. Not great for tracking your HR during a specific workout.
Counterpoint here - perhaps neither! I love the data on these things, especially whoop, however many people have become so reliant on them that they feel beholden to the device in a negative way. For example, whoop tells you to take it easy based on your sleep last night. You don’t workout. Before, you would have. And you’d have felt great.
Just a thought!
Good luck on your journey
VP1 I am sold on the Garmin :) thanks everyone for your inputs!
I am getting more into running and preparing for a climb next year. Getting sleep stats i.e. how much I slept is enough for me. So if the workout is a priority, which one would be better? Both hr and recovery are important for this type of exercising.
